If you have monkey, it's worth saving some on the ground so that you can run over it later when you need that bit of extra healing.
However, there appears to be a limit on how much resource can be on the ground at once (and unlike in other games, they do not stack on itself beyond x2), so if you don't pick it up for long enough, you start losing out on potential resources.
Money isnt collected automatically at the end, its put in a different storage where you cannot use it to buy anything, but it doubles in value for the next round's drops. So if you leave 30 money behind, next round the next 30 money drops are worth double. This doesnt carry over multiple rounds, so you need to collect those 30 bonus money that round or theyre lost forever.
Always pick up money if you can without risking dying
it is NEVER worth leaving it laying around. Picking it up is always the better option.
Just a small test - oneArmer, slingshot, first wave pick up nothing so we got some banked mats.
Second wave pick up nothing:

Second wave pick up most:

basically you have the same amount of total mats, but with one you can actually use it.
Any money not collected goes into the "carry over money bag" and is used to make drops worth double until the bag is empty.
It from trying to find out if there is a "carry over money bag" cap that I confirmed there's a money drop limit since I didnt pick up any money on the character at all and spotted that after a point no more money dropped and "carry over money bag" stopped emptying.
