but not insane and not this "new wave" gamedesign what being impossible or just make you suffer
joy masher games usually cool and play's extremely well, make you sweat at some point but not suffer
Geocrusher power is crazy OP, avoid using it for a bit more of a challenge. There is also a chip you can equip that makes it so you will be killed with a single hit, which obviously makes the game crazy difficult at that point if you wish.
You can also shoot for S ranks on missions which will demand much more of you.
No telling how much harder it will get.
hope Danilo won't get offended by this
But there are things you can do to increase the difficulty on your own terms - there are optional collectible items in the game which provide passive abilities or buffs, which can be ignored; one of those items turns on 'one hit kill mode' so that's an auto 'Hardcore' mode; the subweapons are set to their own input so you can do a "no subweapons" challenge; etc
You get the chip by getting a game over so its nothing you have to look for.
Equiping chips as sort of an artificial difficulty adjustment isn't the greatest idea IMO. There is nothing stopping you from using certain chips to make the game a cake walk. I believe these devs were trying to follow the newest trend of "accessibility" options on this release. Also, if the game wasn't easy enough the geocrusher makes the game even easier. That is a shame.
The thing that makes retro games so great is the high difficulty ceiling and seeing a game over screen when you run out of lives. You have to improve. You have to better yourself to win. Blowing through the game 1st playthrough does not make me want to revisit the game at all. A one and done unfortunately. :(
Tell me more about this "New Wave" design. I'm desperately in need for some challenging and punishing titles, but unfornuately they are nowhere to be found, you must have some highly exclusive intel.
While other upgrades make it so you can take less damage with a scoring penalization in the level, for example.
Not every game under the sun has to be a miserable experience.Thank goodness this dev decided to shrug off this horrible trend of making a game super difficult just for the sake of it ( one of the worst ideas that lots of devs seem to love to crib from FromSoftware) And there's no rule that retro games have to be held to that standard of difficulty when that standard was only there so that people had to rent games for longer.
I personally really like this approach, it's an incentive to explore the levels and is a reward for both "hardcore" & "casual" players alike, although I have heard some complaints of people finding the game too easy, I personally think the difficulty is fairly well balanced, not too hard, not too easy, but -again-, it largely depends on what chips you equip and the like.
As soon as I got the regen health chip and the lower damage chip, the game became a breeze for me, just how I like it personally.
