Steam Version vs Standard Version
I already have Dolphin on my PC. What advantages will the Steam version bring, if any; that is to say, is there any reason to get it a second time?

I'm working on an external emulator disc where i add all my games and emulators on it, to be easier to play and transport, my Dolphin 5 version is already pushed far in custom. So on my case this steam one is kinda useless. It's more for people who didn't dig into emulators, they will be happy to see it there on steam.

I've digged enough into emulators and will still use this as I use Retroarch and others. I like the pros it has for being into steam.

Having this on Steam will make it easier to use on Steam Deck. Will also benefit from cloud saves/remote play.

I use Remote play on YUZU (switch emu) as a non steam game. So, im sure i can do the same with the dolphin standalone. The best part of being on steam, though, is the cloud saving whenever your on a different device and loading into your save file just like retroarch on steam does!

Also, being on steam will motivate more players to use it and therefore more of a online multiplayer base!

wait, you can emulate switch games?! Please tell me how! i do got splatoon 3, kirby and pikmin (all bought) but i hate it on the switch as i always loose track of it, and/or i gotta pay for online. Id also love to play hacks of games.

You actually don't necessarily want automatic updates for an emulator as they might break the games you play or might make the games run worse because of your pc, but yeah cloud saves are pretty nice

Auto updates aren't an issue as long as the option exists to revert to the previous version (if necessary).

We currently have no plans to support reverting to the previous version.

That being said, all past Dolphin builds will always be available to download on https://dolphin-emu.org. It'll take a little bit of work to move your save files, settings, etc over to the standalone version. (The Steam version has its own separate folder for saves and settings to accommodate Steam Cloud syncing.)

I can think of a few benifits for myself;

Steam Controller configs can now be applied to dolphin without adding a non official game to the library. This means steams controller API can be used to manage deadzones and remapping.

Updates provided by Steams CDN. Better uptime, speeds and security and ease of installation across multiple devices.

Intergration into Steam friends list. Potential for MP solutions.

Configs saved in the cloud. Gamesaves to?

Steam deck users rejoice.

The advantages are pretty much nil if you are already experienced with configuring emulators on PC as is, probably great for steam deck users though
You seem to forget steams Shared remote play. Which is one of the best ways of remotely playing games together without fiddling with thirdparty software. And will make sure more games regardless of them being wii-gamecube being playable over the net as it simply streams the video from the host to other users, while streaming their controllers back. As an user of steams shared play the opportunities this will bring for multiplayer gaming on emulation is huge... If it works well with the emulator. So far it has worked flawlessly on other steam games I have that has splitscreen multiplayer...

I wonder

Will it be easy to connect to others players on your friend list, or you gotta go through the usual?
If you have experience with steams shared play function that steam has implemented for other splitscreen games, then you will know...

Aside from that the very store web states that it will have online multiplayer same way standalone dolphin has, so if players have the same region iso-game they could play that way mainly.

Although that requires both people to have dolphin and the ISO files. Shared play makes multiplayer way easier and simplier on that only one of the players needs the game and the emulator running... And afaik ive heard not all GC games works well with netplay. Which means shared play might also solve it in those cases...
