well, thats good, i really wanna see if dolphin gonna do a Steamdeck specific ui for it, because if do, i probably would make my computer way better for playing on a tv

It sounds like at first it will be a little similar to how running Dolphin on a steam deck is currently but they've mentioned a new Ui better suited for steam deck/controllers down the line.

I have no doubt they'll surprise us with what they'll have to offer.

The Steam Deck is just a device running Linux (to simplify the description). Many Many Many emulators are built with Linux as a priority platform and highly supported - I have a few installed on my Linux box right now.

That being said. You can already install Dolphin Emu, RPCSX3 (PS3), PCSX2 (PS2), and PCSXR (PS1) very easily on the Deck. There are other emus too. Just search for a standalone installer or check the repository (I encourage you to learn the terminal on the Deck as you'll basically unlock limitless potential).

tldr: It's probably going to be a seamless installation.

The default GUI of Steam Deck is Game Mode, a fullscreen-only gamepad-driven interface. Just running a desktop application in Game Mode is usually a bad experience. For proper Steam Deck support a new GUI is needed. Just installing the regular version of Dolphin via Flathub is possible already.

No one uses, or should use, 5.0. Especially not Dolphin devs themselves. It's gonna track what it currently called "beta versions" https://dolphin-emu.org/download/

im just hoping they dont use the 5.0 version cause most people do i use the dev version myself and on steam deck for the desktop mode u can only install the dev version or beta version anyways

i just kinda find this a bit pointless in my opinion people who use the steam deck are already used to doing the updates from the linux interface i do that alot once in a while and i think its better that way and i prefer having it on my pc seperated from steam
billyhatcher643 Mar 28, 2023 @ 3:44pm
i prefer doing it that way instead i also dont like using it as an app its really weird and i dont think itll work the same way for steam deck with me playing games in gamemode

Sure, in the end of the day, you can use it the way you want. :)
I´ll probaly use the Steam Version, because of the Steam Cloud support. ^^
i realy dont care much for steam cloud support on a emulator but thats a surprise feature still to me its kinda meh i dont mind not having all of my data backed up to the cloud ive beaten alot of the games pleanty of times

i hope they dont cause i dont want to use the steam version of it though i think they wont cause the other emulators arent on the steam store and everyone prefers using the linux destop version anyways
