volume view
4D Golf has something called volume view which replaces the vertical axis with the 4th axis letting the players view everything that is level with them. this would be helpful mostly when building a house as it would let us see all 6 walls

this requires loading way more chunks.
i.e. W render distance
or limiting it to 1 chunk (8x8x8 xzw)

iirc this is planned for a "minimap" sort of thing.

and also that would make no sense physically because we are playing as a 3D character in a 4D world. and in lore we rotate our hyperplane using some sort of "dial"

Lorewise there could be some sort of object that lets you view from a different hyperplane. Like a periscope?

in volume view you would only be viewing 3 dimensions so I don't see the issue. look at 4D Golf if you want to understand that better

it already has the chunks loaded along the axis you can't see as long as they are within the selected distance.
I moved diagonally from a hyperspider so I would be offset along both X and Z and went a couple chunks away then changed my hyperplane to have W instead of 1 of the other 2 meaning the chunk the spider was in wouldn't be visible. the spider still came to me which means the chunks weren't unloaded when they weren't visible.

this might be why the max distance is lower than modern minecraft despite being made for the same hardware.

I would say right now, it is due to being in Early Alpha, as a form of soft-optimization at the moment.

I guess for a 2D character in 3D this is equivalent to rotating the character's 2D plane to be perpendicular to the vertical axis, so that they move like a flatlander? I can imagine that being really cool and super useful since your perspective wouldn't have an axis with gravity.

I wonder if you would want some kind of anti-gravity item though, because otherwise it would be very disorientating to jump or fall off something.

4D Golf has some kind of ghost object view that will sort of flatten the 4th axis. If 4D Miner did that but only put the layer we are standing on as a ghost then we would at least see where the ground we are standing on ends

It might get a bit hard to see if the entire layer was projected as a ghost on top of your view, but something like an outline for where the edges of the blocks you're standing on are sounds amazing.
Maybe it could be faint and then become more apparent when you get close to it, to avoid blocking your view.
