We're all being gaslit into thinking a shorter game is better

Mafia 1 and 2 take roughly 9-10 hours to complete the story. They both have great stories and aren't that long of a game all things considered. Why are we sitting here being gaslit into thinking that a shorter game with a more linear experience is better? Mafia 1 and 2 ARE NOT LONG GAMES. WHY WOULD A SHORTER STORY AND NO OPEN WORLD MAKE FOR A BETTER EXPERIENCE? The game is going to be 5-6 hours long and that makes it better? Was Mafia 1 and 2 too long of a story? Downsizing a game to call it a better experience is a shame.
