Mafia: The Old Country

Transportation
most transportation around 1900's were by
Horse (drawn carriages) - in fact the us had only 8000 cars registered at that time.
So expect walking, horse riding or perhaps cycling. Or trains....did Sicily even had a train line around 1900? Interesting 👍

meanwhile in the same country, but in a more developed area, this happened in 1895:

"america's first automobile race".
the reason only enthusiasts and hobbyists who ordered do-it-yourself kits had them early on was because of this cartel:

created a racket where they controlled who could sell cars. essentially creating a national stranglehold on the automotive industry until teddy roosevelt started cleaning house around the turn of the century. it's specific to america.

italy, who had multiple major automobile, motorcycle, and voiturette racing events going back to 1900, didn't have that issue. one race, the coppa florio:

expanded out to sicily in 1906 for the annual targa florio:

Your fanboying really gets between in what I just stated above.

It can't be a good Mafia game if you don't have big agglomeration and huge riding park.

just connected for me, the saint rosalia card on the store page is the patron saint of palermo, the same region of sicily that the targa florio was held.

and fast travel will probably by train...if they have such option. Don't think any Mafia game had that option, come to think of it.

Mafia 1, the original, had 'slow travel'. You could board and ride trains and streetcars around the city. Given the strictness of the police, the elevated train was actually /wonderful/ for getting around. Mafia 2, 3, and even DE had prerelease showing that slow travel/transit was coming back, and Mafia 2 even had taxicabs in the code, but everything got stripped for release dates. Good times.
