Hitting stuff on the trail
Crates and spikes etc, sometimes they just break and nobody is bothered, sometimes it cheers them up or pisses them off. Should I actively avoid hitting stuff or is it all in my head?

I think character barks/dialogue is a random proc based on the distance you have traveled. Bumping into objects gives you loot from what I have seen so you would be better off hitting the road obstacles, not completely sure about the dialogue part though.

Thanks, I remember the tutorial saying it's fine to hit stuff, but I think I had characters getting irked at the same time coincidentally.

Character chatter is random, yeah.
Hitting stuff only brings benefits.

i feel like i've seen characters get upset after hitting the wooden barrier looking things and say stuff like "watch where you are going" but i'm not 100% on that

Heros who are 4 stress and above start causing stress to other party members while driving so I'm assuming hitting road debris can cause stress to them too. Best to keep them under 4 stress.

They react to the road hazards that damage wheels but otherwise it just lined up. Piles don't make them upset :O
