What is the positional logic of dreaming general?
There are only him and the trap behind him occupying what I understand would be the first two positions. I know that I have to use heroes to attack the last (4) postion, but, why? the game doesn't explain nothing about that. The same happened to me with other enemies. I can't attack them even when I should following the game's logic.

Not to defend Red Hook but isn't that always the case with their bosses. No information, die and repeat until you win?

It's just a bit worse as Boss are just along the road instead of the end run.

Some enemies are larger in size and they occupy more positions in the field. Dreaming general itself is a size 3 enemy so he covers the first 3 positions. The taproot itself covers the last 4. So yeah you can only hit it with moves that reach 4th spot. Keep in mind that you can also hit the taproot with combat items. Also the hit itself doesn't have to deal damage. Abilities like bellow, blinding gas and magnesium rain all hit the taproot.

If you don't like trial and error, just look up strategies.

Yeah, the general takes up 3 slots bc he's a big boi.

Bring man at arms and bellow if you're going for the general. No loss in DPS and a bonus, you slow the boss down =P.

tap the tap root twice every turn without fail to win. if you don’t, assume someone’s getting strangled and putting you in an action deficit, and that is something you don’t want in a marathon-style boss

IIRC ideal rythm is actually this:
1st round: Don't hit the tap root at all. Use the round to set up or damage the general.
2nd round: Hit the root once.
3rd round: Hit the root until the root token is at its lowest for everyone.
4th round: Hit the root once and prepare for Waking Dead.
5th round and after: Repeat what you did the 3rd and 4th round until the boss dies.

I answered another very similar post earlier, here's what I typed. I hope it helps.

Regarding the "why", between what I answered in the link and the onscreen details when holding Alt and hovering the mouse over the monster/s > I've no doubt you'll understand the why.

Sorry I can't type that info out, I just can't remember how it's worded in game to explain properly.

Best of luck to you.

I know that's the pattern I've seen suggested around and is also on the wiki, but I'd rather not take that dice roll of a root grabbing someone because I only hit it once. The General's piss damage makes stress or TWD the only things likely to cause problems if the fight drags on. a PD and Flagellant can keep the root tapped every round while simultaneously blighting the general, occasionally swapping off with someone else like a HWM or Occultist if a heal needs to go out

Boss very clearly takes up 3 spots

Enemies can have size bigger than one to occupy 2 or more slots.

It was explained in DD1 so lots of people already know about it. I don't think i saw the game explaining size in the tutorial, so it brings confusion to new players.

Bring Occultist and spam Tentacle attack on his back rank
