Relationships are dumb
The fact that you get 2 negative points to just 1 positive point is unfair. positive relationships are incredibly powerful but you cant secure those, while negative ones are crippling and can destroy your team not only due to the bad effects, the probablity of getting more bad points as well, but because it chooses a random ability and locks it into your lineup. you cant remove it until you find a hospital or inn to remove the relationship. i just lost a run due to having my plague doctor locked out of 4 of her 5 slots because of curmmegedon and bad rolls

Just got to the second area and half my skills on every hero either stress out someone or cause taunt and vulnerable. Who the ♥♥♥♥ thought this was a good design? The game is hard enough already without gimping your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ skills too.
The good thing is that cursed skills are only for the one region but it can be devastating if it happens right before mountain. They could make that the game picks 2 skills and the player picks 1 of those skills to be cursed so no longer player gets his run f***ed by a bad luck.
Great idea, that would have worked better on a persistent RPG like DD1. Owell

Okay. I'm 12 hours in to the game and I have no idea what an oasis is. Never seen one.

And I have less issue with the stress-reducing portion of that person's argument than I do with the "alcohol until everyone is friends" portion. (Stress reduction isn't hard, inn items that make you friends are both hard and unreliable.)
To be fair, the only time I've ever looked for general items at inns has been "this person needs to use this random item 4 times to get you progression", and then spent half the game or more never seeing any of that item. I usually only find enough to get halfway through the goal. Or find the item, but am then never put in a position where I'm allowed to use the item.

Sure, a lot of inn items can go both ways, but it's not hard to manage that. Take a pair with a relationship score significantly above a breakpoint, give them one of the gamble items. If it gives a +, great, now you reached the next breakpoint! If not, just fix the damage ( if there is damage at all) with the reliable but less potent inn items (these exist too, whiskey for example is unlocked from the start and will always increase relationship score).

I have 100% had whisk(e)y detract from my relationship score. I distinctly remember this because it was the first and only time I used it.

Yeah, there are so many ways this system could be designed to be less of a straight-up random middle-finger to the player, and I'm not sure how it got through EA like this (though I default to my position of "the devs designed for players who'd unlocked everything and had to ramp up the difficulty of everything", which is a failing of many EA games). As it stands it's a major balance issue getting in the way of fun.

You do not seem to realize that there are multiple types of whiskey items, the default one which is unlocked from the start does not reduce relationship score. Neither does pipeweed and it's also unlocked from the start.

That sounds like you aren't focusing on relationships then. Affinity is just as important as stress in DD2. Or maybe you aren't managing your stress well enough, and constant meltdowns is tanking your relationships.
It would be logical to give the characters a certain alignment, how would they react in situations or deal with each other, (e.g. Flagelant being a jerk and Jester being the heart of the company) so that the player could plan around it. This alignment could be a part of the personal story or a just a charcter's path - hateful/friendly. But no, stupid RNG.
DD1 had a hint of this with e.g. religious charcters having a bonus from correponding skills or trinkets.

but even if you just debuff 1 skill and a player will switch it out - he'll pay for it cuz he will not use skill he selected for this character and potentially loose mastery.

I'm not sure it would be enough of a punishment for losing the relationship game. Plus I feel like it fits thematically. That things you do will piss off your "adversary" even more.
The mod that removes this stupid ♥♥♥♥ will be the first thing I install. Love the game but absolutely hate this mechanic.

Are you sure ? There are two whisky items one is a flask and the other is a bottle (iirc). One of them is always positive the other is a rng chance 67%good, 33%bad. Hover over the items, it will tell you the effects.
One word: Whisky

Unlock more items using candles until you unlock the whisky barrel, they'll appear in the store from then on + have a chance to be donated/found through caches, etc - Spam these + whisky and you'll be walking into runs with a full screen of positives.

i entered all mountain region with 7 or 8 good relationship 99% time

50% times is all 20 for all character
if u invest earlier their will less argue during the road

I like the concept of the relationship, but losing multiple skills that you put mastery points in, only to have ones locked in that you didn't plan on using, which only becomes clear AFTER you leave the inn, totally ruins your build and run. That is way too punishing.

Yep utter trash mechanic luckily i've already modded it so I dont notice it anymore.

I can't hear you people whining about it over the sounds of my quadruple positive relationships rekking the boss with my gigachad MaA and waifu GR, among others.

Getting cursed skills isn't the end of the world either. The debuffs the curses give can be resisted or countered with skill effects. The stress can be healed. You people act like once you got some cursed skills the game alt+f4s and slaps you across the face.

Learn the system and you'll have more fun with it.
