Should you abandon the journey if one hero dies?
I'm trying to put more hours in the game and understand better the mechanics, can't say I have succeeded much so far.

Now, in DD1 I was used to grind some dungeon expeditions until the end even if I lost 1 or 2 heroes (hell, some glorious run I even completed with only one hero left) because I knew that once back in the Hamlet I had other heroes I could use. But here? From what I understand you lose an hero and you're left with a team of 3 for the rest of the run? And therefore it's better to start over again?

Am I figuring it correctly, or there's some shrine/building/place that lets you recruit a new hero along the way if you need it?

If you reach the next inn you'll get a random hero on your team to fill in.

It's usually better to at least try to go to the next inn, delivering hero remains is a good way to get some candles. You will also randomly get new heroes at the inn as long as there are heroes left in your hero pool. What I'm saying, you can't get the same hero twice on the same expedition, so you need to unlock new ones before you can replace dead heroes on runs.

most of the time, yes
you will probably get a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ character for you comp + you will be missing the dead character mastery points

You might be surprised at what you can do with 3 heroes, you can actually usually clear a zone as long as you avoid the bosses/creature dens. At least you'll get some bonuses for reaching the inn and a replacement hero. Of course your mileage may vary if your "carry" hero got wiped and you're facing unfamiliar enemies.

i think its telling if you look at the steam achievements, more people have the achievement for abandoning a run than party wiping.

Personally the length of the runs in DD2 i find causes a hero loss to be far more impactful and yet, at the same time, the result of losing a character has no greater impact on the wider game, like in darkest dungeon 1.

in DD2, it only equates to you, as a human on planet earth, wasting 45mins-2 hours of your precious time.
