Game actually worth playing or just stick to an alternative / DD1
title, I keep reading on numerous issues that havent been fixed or adressed in years. The main thing that interests me in 2 is the visual improvement, so I'd like to know if it is actually worth playing or if there is a more fun alternative that has decent visuals.
One decent alternative I've been playing Across the Obelisk. completely lacks the visuals and style but still is quite a fun game. co-op makes it a lot better.

Kind of regret buying this mess (DD1 "knows" what it is, DD2 is all over the place and doesn't know what it wants to be). DD1 is leagues better. I'll give it a shot again after Kingdoms mode is complete but right now it's one of the worst roguelikes I've ever played.

If it's on 50% sale it's reasonable, that's my take. I didn't play it as much as the first one I'll say this much.
Worth paying full for. My favorite game ever
A solid 300 hours game.

EDIT: in addition to what the other person said, DD2 equips heroes with 5/11 skills instead of 4/8. And there are class specific trinkets that directly affect skills or class mechanics.
I loathe that I didn't bring that up, one of my favourite additions
along with heroes having some new skills in darkest dungeon 2, (and most of their old ones) that are quite interesting and neat to play around with, each hero also has paths they can specialise in, like for Highwayman you can specialise into Sharpshot which focuses on ranged, Rogue for melee or Yellowhand for bleed focus
changes some stats but also actually changes the skills too, could be simply making them stronger like more bleed, or for example grapeshot blast hits the backranks instead of the front for sharpshot
it adds a lot but unfortunately takes a while before you can actually engage with it since both the skills they may affect will need to be unlocked and the paths themselves also need to be unlocked

Idk how much Redhook wanted this to be a roguelike (if it even is one), but i've played numerous of them with different means of metaprogression. If you're telling me I need to tank 40h to get somewhat far into a 3h run, only to still get nuked by a bunch of enemies that outpace and outdamage you and be left with practically nothing but moves and trinket unlocks, I'd rather burn another 80 in Noita trying to do some sidequests.
for what it's worth, it's almost always something you can work around, some heroes will seem like garbage until you get their skills and you might not be able to counter certain enemies or whatnot until you unlock more stuff (cough cough exemplar) but you can usually work around it and make a decent team despite it, but yeah you'll get screwed over in some situations or just have heroes that are a lot weaker than they would be once you unlock more stuff for them

I personally found the way the game handled it didn't feel too grindy, it does kind of make things like unlocking divine comfort or plague grenades feel a lot more substantial when you're forced to play without them for a while and encourages experimentation, but that's just me personally
the only time I think it really sucks is about the third chapter where it seems you're expected to have unlocked a fair bit of stuff

Finding out they gutted experimenting with team compositions and instead you just focus on certain teams to beat bosses in certain chapters totally killed my interest. I'm not really surprised they nerfed healing but it's certainly not going to bring me back either, especially not $20 DLC + the base game (which hardly ever goes on sale)

Just a quick FYI, the game and all the DLC is currently on sale.

* The game has been on sale 4 times this year (including the current sale). That's once a month each month this year (not including package deals).
* The Binding Blade DLC has been on sale 3 times this year.
* Inhuman Bondage DLC (the most recent DLC released on 27th of Jan) has been on sale once this year.

How often or, if it's more fitting, how much more would you like it to be on sale?

Wdym nerfed healing, healing in fights is now actually viable and not only usable with 3 heroes while other only work well when stalling.
You can experiment a lot more with teams now that you wont lose 10hours of progress by trying out something new.

Also game goes on sale all the time

Hell yeah
