you can go make some original toilet who slays shamblers if you want
DD2 started with a broad selection of returning cast, as you'd expect, then brought in an original alongside some more old, then a DLC with an original + old favourite. Now (currently) bringing back ABM - and no doubt about it, they will likely add another sprinkle of originals if more heroes are on the cards before the final curtain drops.
DLC is a new hero to play with, a new zone to explore, and all the variations and changes that it brings to the base experience. If that doesn't appeal to you, then simply enjoy the Kingdom's update with one less hero.
ABM has one of the vaguest backstories in DD1, so I'll be curious to see how they expand it in DD2. He was never an all-out favourite of mine, but it'll be interesting to see how they tackle his transform mechanics (in glorious 3D with an updated combat system).
Given the simple inclusion of one or more heroes (into a game of compositions) can shake up replay for more "hours-than-euros" (let's assume 10-12e on release, like Binding Blade), I don't have a problem snagging hero DLC and seeing how it shakes up the landscape for 10hrs (no doubt much, much more).
Conversely, some of my old DD1 favourites are not favourites in DD2, and vice versa, so while ABM was not one of my top picks, he could become that. Time will tell.
