I suck at using the Flagellant.
For some reason, despite how powerful many of the Flagellant's abilities are, I haven't figured out how to use him effectively beyond abusing More! MORE! and having him be the primary tank. There has to be something I'm missing with each of his paths. I can use him to stack Blight, and I use Punish liberally on the path that makes it knock foes backward in the ranks.

Maybe I'm just approaching the Flagellant lifestyle the wrong way and am not using my imagination enough to reach his full potential. Do any of you fine folks have suggested abilities, team compositions, and trinket arrangements for him?

As an aside, I've always pronounced the word as "FLAJ-ell-ant," so hearing the Academic call him the "Fluh-JELL-ant" always throws me for a loop.

More more! is one of the most OP skills in the game, that's why. Plenty of viable ways to use him but it's hard to not equip and press that magic button.

You have the correct pronunciation. Narrator used the wrong emphasis. Using one's deeper vocal tones leans toward "uh" instead of "aa". The narrator has to put extra effort to not mispronounce "can't" hehe.

You don't suck at using the Flagellant, you've just realized one of his most ideal build paths and are a little bit afraid of stepping outside of that. Maniac is a strong tank/heal combo. The only real downsides are stress and Death (so basically... just like life). It's hard to look at anything else and think it will compare.

His Scourge path isn't as strong individually as the Maniac path, but it synergizes so well with a few meta team comps. Namely Alchemist/???/Scourge/Ravager. You initially use the Scourge to Acid Rain on the back row with the Alchemist/Hellion (via Iron swan), and take out the back row ASAP, then tank/heal as you clean up the front two ranks.

I used him before I got more more (when I got it, ok I see why it's fun lol), he is very interesting as just wanderer honestly, his other paths massively change him left and right which is...cool I guess, but I am struggling figuring them out? they took out the value of what I felt was kinda fun to play around which is his lash out/deathless thing (most of the other paths destroy lash out kinda lol?).

His ability to heal others without limitations and then heal him self with the lash while massively boosting someone is really cool (that get's recked by most other paths)..his corpse clearing utility is also cool. Makes healing gained/given trinkets really worth on him.

I used a combo of him vestal leper and jester just you know...to try to get their stories over with, the idea was just jester to enable lepers chop. That team surprisingly did pretty ok with just the basic skills. (I mean some fights were def stupid cause of the awful reach and frankly I didn't even attempt lung boss, that was just not going to work there?? xD).

I am gonna experiment more now that I got the regen ability as well...I dunno, his healing abilities is what's attracting me the most.

People were also really criticising Vestal alot...but she has no limited number on her abilities...just like flag...that's kinda of a big deal healer wise no, she also can just spam strength buffs while doing other things, who else does that, but...she does have obscene cooldowns xD. I guess him and leper having heals didn't make me glare into how bad potentially she is?

Blight wise....he looks like he is gonna be good...but he kinda turned me off with how often he gets resisted..this whole combo for him to land blight is a little too much for me. But overall definitely a fun character to keep trying things with.

Endure is an at-will no-threshold stress heal. There's no reason anyone in the FLG's party needs to be above zero stress at any time. I recommend JES with i.tune+ to ensure the FLG himself stays low, but even a VES with sanctuary+ is fine.

Deathless lives up to its name. There's no reason for anyone in the FLG's party to carry any damage you don't want them to carry.

The FLG's damage is in fact a bit OP, it merely pales in comparison to his healing and tanking skills, which are crazy OP.

The maniac's anti-curse ability is also great.

Default lash lets you pop someone sitting at 4 stress up to 5 so they can be inspired back down.
For absolute stress control, try JES-MAA-FLG, and don't upgrade bolster. When the FLG is sitting at 6 stress, use bolster- to get to 5, then i.tune+ to get to 2.

Rather than enduring down to 0, endure down to 1. 1 is plenty low, and they'll sometimes crit-soothe down to 0.

Since FLG OP OP, you might consider using an examinate so he doesn't half-step trivialize the game. Trying to stay low enough to use examinate lash is a terrible idea, but it's fun, does a ton of damage, soothes, and mitigates FLG excess dominance. Definitely bring a guard so the full-power examinate doesn't sometimes instantly bite it. Defender, sanctuary, even templar rallying cry. Alternatively you can keep the examinate high even though it nerfs his blight, for a player-driven balance adjustment.

Apropos of nothing, I just noticed wiki.gg now has a vastly superior path display than the one in-game. (Red Hook: "QOL, how does it work?")

Using not-examinate in PD-JES-X-FLG lets you escort any character of your choice. Play whoever you want in X and the other three will all but guarantee victory.
