Yeah I still remember the mastered Ounce working like Raucous Revelry, stress healing 1 to all. Apparently PD was too powerful and that was the needed fix, haha.
However, it has a couple serious problems. First, it's on OP PD plz nerf, and it's merely a solid skill, not a bonkers crazy skill.
Second, players feel entitled to bleed resists. If you cast ounce, you end up twice as mad when a resist fails, but it hardly seems like anything happens when it succeeds. Very hard to tell if it's eve working.
Third, comfort is still a no-threshold 2*3*4 = 24 point heal, and ounce+ is like 13 expected. Sure ounce is better at preventing a crit+bleed, but a better way to prevent that is to use comfort and not get into crit-to-zero range in the first place. (Though in theory you could do both.)
Fourth, there's a risk that ounce does nothing...but where's the reward? Why don't I just kill the thing that has a DoT?
Finally , ounce is on a plague doctor, who can fix bleeds after the fact, limiting the usefuless of ounce. B.meds on a bleeding target is also like a no-threshold heal.
I kinda already expect this to get buffed. If Red Hook thinks about it at all, they will do something. However, as it stands, ounce is a very situational anti-disease skill. A very useful anti-disease skill when you get the resist, but it requires the player to remember to put ounce on. Diseases aren't strong enough to properly pay for this hassle.
Most front-line heroes (the ones taking most hits and dots for you) have below average bleed res across the board and resistances work better the more you already have of it. Another point is that fights are usually over before the dots have time to expire or if they get stacked high enough on one target just by removing the dots (without even factoring in heal) you can prevent 2x-5x more dmg with BfM than with Ounce - and that's guaranteed prevention.
Even in a double Evangelist fight you're barely squeezing out 10 prevented heal out of it. Would you rather use a move to "eventually" prevent up to 10 dmg or just throw Blight for 30-40 dmg and kill enemies while reducing their dmg as well?
Numerically speaking, Ounce is trash beyond any good reason. The only area where Ounce is serviceable is act 4 in combination with bleed res stacking to make your team immune to bleed. We can hope that RH changes their approach to buff/debuff skills and we see some good examples.
I guess Ounce of Prevention on R2 could help giving her some useful option, until someone else dances to the front. Personally, I might prefer buffing Incision at least a bit on her, so that you could at least consider giving her an offensive option.
Other than that, I've made pretty good experiences with Physician. She looks a bit weak on paper, but my runs always go very smoothly with her. I think the Strength tokens are very easy to underestimate. And if you manage to get the Ounce of Prevention Trinket, it turns into an incredibly valuable move.
