They don't really need your support to thrive. DD1 have earned 30-50 million dollars, if not more - it's difficult to account for all the DLCs and release versions. That on a budget of mil, mb 2.
DD2 cost them 5 mils, roughly. No more than 10 and that's in case horrible mismanagement was present. Most likely, they've already got their budget back and made a little profit - which is very cool for a game that has quite a polar reception, to put it courteously.
They're one of the richest, most successful indies out there and they don't need hangouts.
I felt forced to buy it because I knew our new government was going to raise the currency ratio to a new insane high today - but leaving that aside, if I could have avoided it, I would have, because it was already too expensive.
Plus, I believe the crusader should have been free. You can charge us for the new class and the etcetera, but people have been asking for this class since the game first released on early access. It was an icon from the first game. Placing the sader, specifically, behind a paywall is a practice I dislike.
I don't regret the purchase as I see it as an investment into what is hopefully more robust content to come. I believe they will make good on their many promises, even if I personally feel like DD2 could have benefited from another year or two in EA. I still vastly prefer DD1 overall (and BR) and have stated why in other threads, and I completely get where you're coming from, but I don't feel like my money is going to support some monolithic Acti-Blizz type of establishment either.
I'm good with where it went this time, though I'll be watching closely to see what else comes next and I won't give any company blind trust either. Like you, I've been around this industry (edit: as a passionate consumer, not a creator like yourself - just to clarify) far too long for that.
I hope they take the feedback given here - both positive and especially negative - seriously and don't dismiss it as simple trolling. The complaints are legitimate and I would probably feel a little burned myself if I was a longtime fan of the series.
Reminds me of the famous quote: "you guys don't have phones?"
That didn't go too well as it took almost 2 years for the stock to recover.
You know, what makes your comment extremely dumb is that I wouldn't be playing this DLC IF there were any info about it. The only info that was is, well, it's Duelist and Crusader.
If there was official wiki with full info (as is the case with, for example, 4x Strategies - I've bought DLCs for CIv VI or Humankind and in both cases I knew what I was getting exactly) then the blame would've been on me indeed.
But in this case we're talking about ~5 hours of grind to unlock both characters fully (way past beyond steam refund point, btw) only to see that they both suck major balls. I wasn't redhook hater, if anything, I'm one of their biggest prozelytizers in Russia, but this "cat in the bag" deal was a kick in the nuts.
I don't even care about money - give me back my time I've spent grinding this ♥♥♥♥, lol.
I don't understand. Grinding the unlocks is one of the core progression systems. It's the same for all the heroes in the game. The only difference, is the tied the Crusader unlock to a thematic quest. What makes grinding the Duelest worse than grinding unlocks for the Jester or Flagellant?
It reminds me that the dlc costs as much as a big mac.
Seriously, if $10 is too much for you, you should stop playing video games and get your life together. Everything costs at least $10. Get used to the build back better.
I think part of the reason why there's no information is because the active community has shrunk to a minimum. There are only a handful of YouTubers who are doing videos on DD2, I could barely find an article about the DLC on release and to this date most are generic 200 words copy/paste of the RH page. Twitch views peaked for a short time and are down again, only carried by big streamers whenever they decide to pick up DD2. A year ago I saw way more videos and guides on YT but most of the creators are gone now.
It didn't help that some creators got bullied on the DD2 Discord just because of criticism of game mechanics. Generally speaking, the DD2 Discord seemed very toxic and badly moderated and it's more of an inner circle of a few people than a public, well, discorse. Heck, a bunch of people got random banned without any reason ever given.
I think you mistake that for some people these 10€, invested in a different product, would bring more entertainment than the DLC. Especially, when the projectory of the game development is heading in the wrong direction you don't want to give the devs more incentives. I'd consider buying it if the base game which is barely 1/2 a year old would be in an acceptable stage but currently it isn't.
That's because Redhook didn't bother with key mailings. I'm a youtuber, lol, I got my release keys from them in advance, but not so much with the DLC. Which sucks because people want these vids the most at the time of release, not couple of days later.
However, I don't think that's the correct approach. The onus to release this info is on the game studio, not on the youtubers. Once again, in Civ and Humankind case all the abilities of new characters were revealed couple of weeks before the game's release by devs themselves. In DDII's case there was a stream but it was, like, 14 hours before release itself and there was no full disclosure. And there should have been. There should be an official wiki that is maintained by devs themselves and is always up to date.
It's not about the price but cut off content from basic version. Many players can afford much higher price of good DLC. Vast majority of players are pissed off at RED HOOK policy.
