-High replayability because it is a roguelite
-Because it is a roguelite means you start each run from scratch, skills and heroes reset.
-Allows for many different play styles and options per run.
-You do get stronger with meta progression, so there is perma upgrades as most roguelike games.
-Game is really hard, don't expect to win a run right away or even in a few tries, it is possible but experience means more than upgrades.
-High learning curve, once you die to something and learn how to beat it then you can steam roll it, which feels great.
-Some rng can really make run much easier or much harder.
I'm playing it only because I have limited gaming time and an hour here and there ain't bad. More than one or two trecks to the inns gets boring. It's the same ♥♥♥♥ over and over. It has difficult bosses that can reset progress but everything else is easy and plain braindead repetitive. I can't emphasize enough how repetitive it gets and the battles don't change with each act. You'll maybe get one mob and boss more with each act. I can't count how many times I've fought the same 4 fanatics already knowing what skill I'm gunna use and in which order.
The main premise of the games great but it needs more content and variety. It's certainly not worth it's price tag.
Man that sounds like DD1 if simplified down :O ;P
You can try the vanilla game right now, or wait until balance has been polished, some features are done being implemented, and you have access to lots of mods. Your choice.
Yeah.
If you already have Darkest Dungeon then I suggest buying now instead of waiting for a discount or the workshop because, if you buy the Darkest Dungeon: The Iron Crown bundle you get Darkest Dungeon 2 at a timed discounted price (obviously you don't get charged for DD1 coz you already have it) and there's no way of knowing how future discounts will compare if at all.

Nowadays the big games have crazy prices, like 80 CAD. But this one is 50 CAD, and I got it for 37 CAD just because I owned Darkest Dungeon.
They were really fair with their pricing and I chose to vote with my wallet by buying the game right now.
If you feel attached to the format of DD1 with the hamlet and ressource grind, you might be disapointed, since DD2 is going for a very different approach.
You will have to stick with the same party longer and think more about what you are doing in combat. And if things go wrong, there is no turning back to the hamlet. You have to keep going, reach the next inn, and maybe save your run. Or die, collect your candles and start again.
If this sound appealing to you and you can afford it, I see no reason to wait.
