And what do you mean by the game forces you to go for a new confession? You can always select from previous confessions, even after a fresh victory against a new confession.
The act bosses are for better or worse the gatekeepers of the game. If you absolutely hate interacting with them, well for better or worse they are the markers for progress in the game. For me I try to interact with the game it was designed: I expected the act bosses to surprise and rek me, and most of them did (except act 4 which I one shot, so there's hope there! There are actually act bosses where just about any well constructed team will do well in so don't lose hope). I expected to have to learn and adapt. And there were times where I wanted to quit, but the game is fun enough to keep trying at least IMO.
You cannot. When you first unlock a new Confession, the names of previous Confessions are darkened and unselectable.
I completed Denial on my very first run and was unable to re-select it, I was forced into Resentment where I wiped on the final boss. After that I could select Denial again, and farmed it for a while. I made a second attempt at Resentment yesterday and succeeded, and then both Denial and Resentment became unavailable. I'll wipe on Obsession today and I expect Denial and Resentment will become available again after that. Until I complete Obsession, at which point I'll be forced to do the next one.
Were you putting memories on your winning party? I wonder if the game doesn't let you use the same characters on the same confession after they've canonically beaten it, since they have memories. Other than maybe that, I have no idea.
I beat Denial on my first run and did not spend any of my candles on Memories. I was still forced into Resentment. And I have Memoried characters that have beaten Denial, I can still pick them to do Denial.
I did put candles on a party member after beating Resentment, but I was forced into Obsession there too.
Looks like it's just how it works.
It's a thing. Every time you defeat a new confession boss, you get an extended bit of story from the narrator and are locked into the next confession. I'm currently on Confession 5 and have experienced it after defeating each of the first 4. Others talk about it here and on the subreddit.
Not a big deal for me at all, and it's definitely off-topic. Just wanted to clarify.
Or maybe my memory is awful, who knows.
The fact you two are apparently challenged doesn't mean the rest of the community should suffer a mediocre game.
The bosses are quite doable and I haven't read a single review lamenting them, bar the overtuned act 2 boss.
