My first two attempts against a Shambler failed horribly, but prepared me for an unavoidable third against an Ordained Shambler (the node just before an Ordained Exemplar, of course).
The short of it is, while this game strongly encourages offense, you have to go all-out here. If you don't, the DOTs will stack, the tentacles will get increasingly high damage bonuses (it's +50% every time they hit something), Stress will accumulate on the whole group, it's real bad.
Kill it. Kill it quick.
But this is an RNG game, you can get wiped by bad RNG, even if you prepare as much as you can.
