Unkillable Librarian
Just sharing my frustration that the bloated, greasy, scorched ♥♥♥♥ smelling Librarian survived one too many attacks in death's door and killed my entire party. My RNG can go swallow a gigantic ♥♥♥♥.

Wait, the Librarian? Which one is it? The one that kinda prances around? I'm not sure, I think it's this one, I just sneezed and he died, so I didn't catch his name.

Lair boss, hides behind the books.

That was sarcasm.

Yeah, I feel ya. The game can be pretty unapologetic.

3 turns per round makes him extremely vulnerable to DoTs. Dodge removel via combat items or skills such as upgraded tracking shot turn that boss fight into a walk in the park. Seriously hit him with tracking shot+ on round 1 and watch that sucker take all the hits to the face and die in like 3 turns because he has lower health than other lair bosses.

I'll be stubborn and keep brute forcing 'til I succeed. I appreciate the tips, though. I'll be sure to use them once I get him the first time.

I don't think Death Armor existed yet.

Even without the new execution element, Librarian was always the squishiest and arguably easiest lair boss in the game, given he was almost exclusively there to test projection or kill speed - something most good teams will have. Sure, you could also abuse movement skills, or wait, but most of the great anti-Librarian heroes can chunk him straight-up @ R4 and kill him before all the books are gone.

Just like every boss, it's all about understanding the gimmick and taking as much counter-play as you deem comfortable. Hate being dodged? Combat items or anti-dodge skills. Can't reach? Use more ranged heroes/skills or combat items. Multiple turns per round? DoT heaven. Don't like slapping a 0-Health boss multiple times? Execution -- the only thing we lacked back then.

And of course, given it's the fire zone, you already know what resistances would serve well.

Compared to Leviathan, Dreamer, and Harvest Child, the Librarian is the shortest and least intricate battle of the bunch. If anyone struggles, it won't be because the boss is unfair -- it'll be a classic case of strolling into his lair without the right tools for the job, especially when you fight him after the first region (when you have some power/progression under your belt).

As for Highwayman, he's a decent choice for Librarian due to riposte, projection, DoT, token management, personal de-shuffling, and more. However, he has never been remotely close to mandatory in any way, shape or form - not then, and most certainly not a year later.

If anyone stumbles into this old thread with Librarian hate in their heart, then perhaps a quick stomp will make you feel a little better.

For me, Librarian is the easiest boss to fight. Usually, I combo him to death with my Leper or Hellion once he reaches the second rank. Don't let him reach the first rank otherwise it's GG.
