Lair boss, hides behind the books.
IT IS WRITTEN; ONLY HIGHWAYMAN CAN DEFEAT LIBRARIAN
Just like every boss, it's all about understanding the gimmick and taking as much counter-play as you deem comfortable. Hate being dodged? Combat items or anti-dodge skills. Can't reach? Use more ranged heroes/skills or combat items. Multiple turns per round? DoT heaven. Don't like slapping a 0-Health boss multiple times? Execution -- the only thing we lacked back then.
And of course, given it's the fire zone, you already know what resistances would serve well.
Compared to Leviathan, Dreamer, and Harvest Child, the Librarian is the shortest and least intricate battle of the bunch. If anyone struggles, it won't be because the boss is unfair -- it'll be a classic case of strolling into his lair without the right tools for the job, especially when you fight him after the first region (when you have some power/progression under your belt).
As for Highwayman, he's a decent choice for Librarian due to riposte, projection, DoT, token management, personal de-shuffling, and more. However, he has never been remotely close to mandatory in any way, shape or form - not then, and most certainly not a year later.
If anyone stumbles into this old thread with Librarian hate in their heart, then perhaps a quick stomp will make you feel a little better.
