librarian is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boss change my mind
if you're using the usual suspects you can't do ♥♥♥♥ against him until he's already next to you, meanwhile he keeps getting free turns out of thin ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ air that just let him do damage to your entire party + burn them, he keeps throwing out blinds that give him MULTIPLE DODGES and once the books are gone he just destroys you with constant full party damage.
You'd think a race against the books being destroyed would warrant him not constantly getting dodges to avoid all damage you can feasibly do.

Upgrade the blight damage of the grave digger, use absinthe to get faster speed, blight him to death. When he gets close, stalwart to push him back/stun him (Likely to resist.) and be sure to protect the grave digger with the man at arms.

Man I'd love to do that but he dodges literally everything

Use tracking shot to remove dodge. (Upgraded prevents it for 2 charges.)

I mean this is (unironically) helpful advice but this boss is still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terribly designed. At first I actually thought you had to get rid of the books to change his moveset to one where you can actually hit him, which is obviously not the case. If this boss were better designed that thought wouldn't even enter your mind

he's seriously overtuned, i think the game is designed around for you to make sure you have enough currency to buy items to prevent fire, enough trinkets to enable some decent buffs, and the rest of that jazz. i stil haven't beaten him yet, but my advice would be to escape until you have enough swag to go back and get him.

I beat him, but I did so too late and ended up losing two people. My final two survived to the next inn (Two fights later.) but died because I went into a creature den haha.

The biggest problem with him is that it's really hard to tell what's going on:

- The hint about the books enabling his rage mode could be clearer
- There's no way to tell that he's gonna ignite once he burned the last book, healing for a whoopping 24
- He applies both blind to you and dodge to himself. Multi dip in the feelsbad is 99% bad for a game
- You can lose the fight literally turn 0 if your comp can't reach rank 4, so you'll need prior knowledge or just lose. That's crap design imo

Other than those, it seems fine but some of those are major issues.

so he is typical boss design from darkest dungeon then?

I'll say this:

I beat him on my first run with the usual suspects and without a clue about what I was doing. That's not a brag, but I did find him to be pretty difficult. I survived, but barely.

I more-so question how he's able to THROW flaming pages of paper at you as an attack.
Satoru May 9, 2023 @ 10:57am
What I did mostly was
1) use blight DOTs since he attacks multiple times triggering DOTs a lot
2) I used the man at arms abiltiy to push stacks of books back so I could functionally 'pull' him forward for the plague doctor to also get DOT hits in
3) plague doctors abiltiyt to raise flame resists was very helpful

The DD series is designed to kill you, especially on your first blind runs; don't understand why you're playing a game that's designed to be challenging and then complaining that said game is challenging

Die on the first run and bring that new knowledge to the second run, just like how it was in DD1.
SH4 May 9, 2023 @ 11:36am
This type of game is meant to fk u over. But once u grasp the mechanics, u return that fck 10 fold.

what i did when i first run to this boss is I cleared the books first... yea, fatal mistake. but his gimmick only last once, now he's one of easiest ♥♥♥♥ to run over.
GoBoomYay May 9, 2023 @ 11:37am
Then use a different party

You're confusing challenging with "hihi gotcha" punishing.
