Master List of Darkest Dungeon II Fixes
If you are running into any issues with the game, please try all the workarounds below to see if one of them solves your issue. Also, please look for any existing threads that might cover your issue before starting a new one. Thanks!

I'll try to correlate fixes for Darkest Dungeon II in this thread so it's easier to find.

Stuttering Issues

The devs currently need more information about this.

If you're having performance issues please list

* Your system specs
* post to pastebin or another text file site your player.log from

users\<username>\appdata\locallow\redhook\darkest dungeon II\player.log

Thanks

Disable Overlays

Currently several overlay programs cause black screen issues on systems. Try disabling overlays on programs. The following list are potential programs that cause this but is not exhaustive
  • MSI Afterburner
  • Riva Tuner
  • Overwolf
If you have any other overlay type of programs, disable the overlay or exit the program.

Update Your Video Card Drivers

This is the next most common cause for people's inability to run the game, particularly on PC.

It is also important that you update your drivers through software provided by your video card manufacturer or directly from their site. Using Windows or updating software provided by your laptop manufacturer to find more recently drivers is less reliable, as they will likely only have drivers that initially shipped with the product, or will be out of date with the actual video card manufacturer.

Laptop users should force their Nvidia/AMD cards

Use the Nvidia Control Panel or AMD CCC to force the game to use your built in GPU instead of the Intel one

This guide should help you depending on your video card:

http://www.howtogeek.com/175281/how-to-force-graphics-options-in-pc-games-with-nvidia-amd-or-intel-graphics/

We've also noticed that some HP laptops don't report the correct OpenGL version and/or people can't force their video card. Please see these links for more information on a possible solution:

Windows N Download Media Feature Pack

If you are running a Windows "N" variant, you need to install the media feature pack so the intro movie will play

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/media-feature-pack-list-for-windows-n-editions-c1c6fffa-d052-8338-7a79-a4bb980a700a

Delete Previous Saves

Try deleting your previous saves as they may be casuing issues

c:\users\<username>\appdata\LocalLow\RedHook\Darkest Dungeon II

Delete all the files in here and restart the game

Try Restarting Steam

If you don't see the game in your library, try restarting the Steam client.

Verify the Integrity of the Game Cache

If you have tried all of these workarounds, and are still having trouble running the game, or if there are other obvious missing elements to the game (such as missing fonts), validate that all of the files are actually installed properly:
  • Go to your Steam Library
  • Right click -> Properties on Darkest Dungeon
  • Click the "Local Files" tab
  • Click on the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..." button

Post your system specs and details about your issue

If you are having crash or cannot start issues, and have done everything above please make a post in this sub-forum. The devs are treating all such issues at the highest priority.

Also the devs request that you send them additional logs if you can't start the game. This thread tells you how to enable the additional logging

It's important for the devs to know what your system specs are if they are to troubleshoot issue. Try to put a baseline information such as

OS:
Video Card:
CPU:

You can also go to the Steam Client and go to
Steam-Help-System Information

That window has a lot of technical stuff about your system that can help the devs identify things

Also when describing your problem be as descriptive as possible. They'll need to recreate your problem so more details is always better. Adding screenshots can also be helpful in describing visual issues.

Please be patient. The devs are absolutely committed to getting the game working for everyone.

The devs are active in fixing everyone's problems. So definitely post your bugs and crashes and they'll get resolved as fast as humanly possible.

I understand not being able to play the game is frustrating. But please be patient.

Stagecoach has some unstable FPS, especially in the Tangle. Oh god is it bad in the Tangle..and it's weird cause it's not even consistently bad. It'll start out decent, then plummet down to the 30s, then creep down even further into sub-20s. After some events it even shoots back up, only to come back down.

i7-4770k 3.5ghz
32gb RAM
Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB
Win 10 home 64-bit

Fast sync doesn't make a difference,
in-game Vsync on or off still produces the stutter and drops
Analytics on or off doesn't make a difference either.
I even tried turning graphics down to medium or low--no difference in framerate. Not even sure this option does anything.

Been hearing this game doesn't use multi-threading. Big oof. Y'all might wanna get that sorted out at red hook.

Both times happened after the flames went out in the carriage.

I've started having this in every run in whichever region I choose after the valley.

During combat, my game stutters after making attack animations. It's annoying. I recorded what it looks like: Insights capture replay [insights.gg]

Windows 11
I'm on an Nvidia 3070 with the latest drivers (31.0.15.3179)
CPU Brand: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor
RAM: 32701 MB

Update. I've tried:
--Disable fullscreen optimizations on DDII.exe properties
--Running the game as administrator
--I ran the game with -force-d3d12 and -d3d11 options. Just to try it.
--I've tried every windows size option (exclusive, borderless, windowed)
--I've lowered and raised the resolution
--I've changed the graphics from high to low and back
--I've restarted my computer and turned off other background processes and apps.
--I've capped my fps to 120, 90, and 60.
--I blessed the side of my cpu with some holy water. (just a dab, no sense in shorting anything).
--I double checked and I can run DOOM:E on high settings without drops.
--Some areas are slightly better than others. Or maybe I'm just getting used to it and looking past it. Need to test that more I'll admit.
--I double checked my graphics drivers and they are definitely updated.

In every case, when I or an enemy attacks, my screen hiccups and my fps counter drops to ~20-30 before climbing back up to the cap.

Same problem with stagecoach FPS with The tangle being the worst. Might have something to do with the rain effect. 120FPS lock is on. Forcing DX12 via launch settings actually makes it worse.

Win 11
i7 12700H
16GB RAM
3070Ti Mobile.

Tried both Intel Xe and 3070Ti-M and both yielded the same performance issue. 115-119 FPS normally but can dip as low as 40 in the tangle map. Tried with and without Vsync as well.

Framerate during stagecoach sections gets really bad in some areas. Especially the Tangle. No matter the settings and resolution the game would be stuck at the same 36-37 fps, while pushing out solid 120 during the combat.
Game also stutters when camera zooms in on points of interests and when it zooms out of them. GPU is barely loaded to 20% and CPU is chilling at around 10%, so it doesn't utilize any of them in any meaningful way either.

Nvidia RTX 2060 Super 8GB with latest drivers

Some achievements are not triggering, like slaying the Lair boss in the sprawl or setting up a group of 4 heroes with at least one memory each.

I've also been getting low fps while driving the stage coach.
Nvidia 3080 laptop gpu
AMD Ryzen 7 5800H
Crucial 16GB 2x16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22
Windows 11

Same here with memory achievement and I'm pretty sure that I have at least more than 25% of all candles unlocked but so far the achievement don't count for me.
