An option to reduce flame?
There are some trinkets/quirks that benefit from low flame, but they are essentially rendered useless on mountain, which in my opinion sucks, because there are some really cool trinkets like pigsticker, that has a god-tier synergy with nightsworn GR. Would love to see maybe a combat item that would reduce flame, or even something similar to torch snuffing from dd1. Me want more options in my roguelite.

Wait... you can't right-click to reduce Flame level like in DD?

I was just thinking this morning how I wanted to start getting into dark runs. I know the developers intend for it to be a thing as there are items and quirks that benefit from low Flame. If there's no way to lower Flame, however... it's a non-starter.

Just one of those things that haven't been implemented yet, I guess.

Unfortunately there's no way to manually reduce Flame level (like there was in DD1).

Your only 'solution' is to use the Doom Candle or the Stygian Blaze torches (both of which increase travelling Flame drain).

Well that's... highly problematic. They both inflict awful penalties, and being low Flame already inflicts huge penalties.

I guess we'll have to wait until something adequate is implemented.

Agree, there should be an option to reduce flame manually. Lots of trinkets and quirks benefit from low flame.

However, that would require reworking the consequences of reduced flame level. Dropping flame to zero triggers a fight against cultists - this might be exploited in a wide variety of ways. Reduce stress with relations combos and skills; farm kills for BH with vengeful kill list, just to name a few.

I don't quite understand why is it impossible to travel with 0 flame. You could instead inflict heavy penalties like increased stress generation, negative banter, guaranteed shuffle at the start of each combat, and a *chance* of getting a cultist fight out of nowhere. Wouldn't that make more sense?

It's weird. Right now there's a chance of ambush, but it's not consistent. Sometimes it'll happen almost immediately when you reach 0 Flame, sometimes it just doesn't seem to happen for a very long time and you reach a location where you can raise it.

Some penalties are logical for a lightless run and some of them are already there. Some of the ones we have don't make any sense, though. And the odds of ambush should actually be lower in darkness since enemies can't see you coming from a mile away as they would if you were carrying a big bright torch; not using light makes you stealthy.

In the end it'll probably be super arbitrary. I just hope it's decently balanced.

the torch < 75 ring that marks attackers when they're counter-attacked is a real blast. put it on Dismas, it did a massacre. enemies marked two per turn on average, for free, even the 3rd and the 4th
it give -15% deatblow res over 75 light that's a ridiculous non-threat

Flame trinkets seem to be a left over from when any dark flame counted as zero. Now letting it get low is not worth just to hope you can juggle it right

So there used to be a way to do it, and now it's gone?

That's bizarre. Why remove a game mode when there are items and quirks supporting it? And why leave those items and quirks in if they're useless?

Flame trinkets needs a look at, but it was too much of a benefit to "hard mode" (it wasn't) with the dark flame in the old builds. I like the dark flame choices, but they need to rework the trinkets. Most with lower flame requirements are just trash to be thrown aside

To be honest I don't like any of the Infernal Flames, and they have nothing to do with the Flame level (you have have an Infernal Flame at anywhere between 0 and 100, just like the regular Flame or Radiant Flames).

I'd just like to be able to do low-Flame runs, like in Darkest Dungeon.
