It was my favorite hat, all tricked out with all sorts of useful buffs and he STOLE IT FROM ME!!!!! Can I find him again and take it back or is it gone forever?

I don't think you can. That encounter really bothered me, too. It's way too easy to accidentally give away a piece of gear that is likely unique and which you've been upgrading. Even worse, the "tricky" option using your class' dialogue skill still makes you lose your hat, or at least it did on my cheese wizard and I didn't want to try it on my other characters afterwards.

The same sh*t got me in my first run . The d*uchebag took away from me satchel lucky hat and in the end I wasn’t able to recover it. I was soo bummed that out of spite I erased my file and restarted from scratch (that and because of Borge house disappearance). Now everytime I reach grey country I bait the ugly m*dafuka and I exchange my hat for an easy to get ugly as sin vampire hat.

i accidentally traded away my maggot +1 to all 3 stats on my first run. i won't make that mistake again

Yeah, it's an uncharacteristically 'mean' encounter. I don't think you can even fight the guy, can you?

i belive you can refuse the trade, but on a first time playthrough, it's likely that a player won't know this could happen and just accept it. . .

Actually you can and I made sure to do just that on my second playthough where I mercilessly stomped him into the dirt with extreme prejudice.
