Gatorman Hobo Takes Wrong Weapon

If I understand it correctly, the Gatorman hobo needs a weapon with 6 base power. By using a Sharpening stone on a Gator stick, you can raise its damage enough that he will accept it. However, he instead took one of my two unsharpened Gator sticks. It may have something to do with the fact I had the sharpened one equipped during the conversation. Unfortunately, I zoned out and autosaved before I thought to test this with my Swamp banjo, which also has 5 base power and I only have one of.

I can't reproduce this -- with two unsharpened sticks in my inventory and a sharpened stick equipped, he took the sharpened equipped stick.

Hmm, I wonder what the difference is. To be more specific, I sharpened the newest Gator stick in my inventory. Maybe that has some effect on it? I wouldn't expect it to, but maybe.

I'm quite sure it happened, as the Gator stick is the only weapon I've sharpened in my entire playthrough, and was the only weapon I had that met the criteria as I understand it. Sorry I can't be more helpful in identifying the cause.
