Did you find the campfires with his wrenches left behind? I think I found three of them iirc (one was at Dauphin House, the others were Radio Shack and Moonshiners' Cave) and then the Gatorman Fortress unlocked.

the RNG in this game is really strange. I've never had trouble finding him but so many have.

its one of those "relax and enjoy the journey" things. you need to explore the areas you come across. you will eventually find some of charles' wrenches at various places. I think there is a wrench at dauphin house.. can't recall where else.

goblins in first game found more new locations so you might try that with gabby. doing monster shack quests will send you all over the map... so that should help.

One is at the quarry, the location for that is given to you at the crashed airplane .

It actually changes between playthroughs, based on some combination of previous decisions and the order you go through the areas? Not sure of the details. It can be at least one of the quarries, but isn't always.

For this latest run I had all 3 initial things happen from outside quests, like the mob. I think thus the more free areas you get the easier it is. Theres no great way of finding areas in this. Any game with RNG can and will eventually give someone the 1 in 10000 odds.

there's a cabin with tracks near it. make sure you follow every tracks. . including the "hidden option" that doesn't pop up the first time you look there.

Well for reference my first char had 0 initial things happen even after like, 10-15 areas in. I can go count them now actually. Edit: Its 11 without getting a relevant location. Kinda abandoned that char temporarily as started getting locked out of content, never think "well I'm this tainted already why stop there?", don't want it to be a 1st playthrough

i kinda messed up my first playthrugh by getting tainted and then the hobos refused to talk to me anymore. and i just went with it, had 11 taint but i still couldn't get it all the way because i had already closed all the portals before i learned that there was other stuff to get from them and i had already uncursed all my items, so it was like a halfassed evil run.
i still pulled off several companion acheevs, but i couldn't get them all
