Obie glitch?
My mistake, I should have posted here though in a way this problem could be said without spoilers? But I'll just include that I found I was having this problem all the way in Chapter 6. I found that I hadn't completed the hobo questline yet and went back to try and find who I was missing but confused because I remembered meeting all of them (when I looked up a guide in the end). I then realized after talking to everyone at the camp that I was missing Obie and then further realized that he was supposed to be a companion?? I've completed the quest at the park and distinctly remember giving him 50 meat to make him leave, but then there's no way for me to remember if I ever saw him at the hobo camp or not. I would like to say that he very likely just never showed up though because I've been playing the game really thoroughly, talking to everyone I see. What I think happened is just that Obie never showed up at the hobo camp when he should have, or I'm just missing something and he went somewhere else after the park? Not sure what I should do.

okay so i just went back to it and the first dialouge options are giving him meat (1, 10 or 50), telling him 'actually, i need you to leave' or saying 'not just now, sorry'; after you give him 50 meat he plays you his oboe and then you can tell him that you need him to leave, after that you can choose HOW you want to make him leave (favor, 'i could make it worth your while' or a skillcheck), the skillcheck option makes him dissapear, the other 2 send him to the hobo camp. if you want i can tell you which lines you would have to remove from your save file to redo that part of the quest? (you would get the achievements no problem, steam doesn't track if you edited the savefiles)
Sure I can try to do that! Now I'm just here second guessing myself on whether I'm just forgetting that I did the skill check but I just swear I remember dialogue along the lines of Obie reacting to the meat I gave him then leaving right after.... but who knows.
okay so, first you want to find your savefile, it should be at %appdata%/LocalLow/Asymmetric Games, LLC/Shadows Over Loathing, but lmk if you have issues finding it. then you wanna make sure that the most recent savefile you used is the one you want to edit and then just go by the time the file was changed last to find which of the savefiles is the right one (you'll see your characters name at the top after you open the file if you're unsure) open that file, i use note++ but anything that can open a json file should work? the lines you need to delete from the file are:
"park_quest_hobo": "10",
"park_finished": "1",
"companion_obie_motif": "1",
"hobo_kindness": "3",
"park_obiekind": "1",
"park_hobointro": "1",
"park_didone": "1",
it's easiest imo if you use the search function for either the whole line or part of it, but they should all be relatively close together. then just save(make sure your savefile isn't currently loaded in game or it won't save the change) and you should be good to go!

Hmm I can't seem to find it, I haven't tried to delve into steam game folders before. I've found the folder for the game itself but can't find the save files, and searching the phrase you mentioned isn't turning anything up.

the save files are in a different place than the game itself, assuming you use windows, make sure you have hidden folders shown, go to your harddrive, then users, than your user, then the hidden appdata folder then locallow, and there should be an assymatric folder with a shadows ovr loathing folder in it, in THAT should be your savefiles (they're named save-[long number unique to each save])

Editing this, oh I did find him! Thanks for your help with this, I guess I'm just not sure if I should be leaving the comment I made in the bugs discussion because at this point I'm not sure if something did glitch or I just made the wrong option. If it is just that you're able to lock yourself out of Obie completely from 2/3 options without really knowing, that's pretty weird for an early game companion

glad it worked out! and yeah, i agree, especially since you usually want to use the skillchecks for the best results, but in this case it just messes you up so early on
