Ernst Zimmer house puzzle

Seems like the furniture is arranged in the same pattern as the strings in the portal, so I assume there is a combination that will allow you to keep the crystals without destroying the house but I can't seem to find what it is, has anyone found a way?

the bit of jewellery you can make out of the crystal /is/ pretty good though.

After smashing the crystal the furniture went back to normal and I realised they're all either black or white, I'm pretty sure if you only pluck the strings corresponding to either the black or white furniture it will do something, unfortunately I can't do that until the next playthrough so if anyone else does it I'd be interested to know. Going clockwise and starting with the plate rack it goes B,B,B,B,B,W,B,W,B,B,B,W,B (B = black, W = white)

I tried it and it didn't seem to do anything, I just got the same outcome where the house dissapeared.

The number of strings vibrating determines the difficulty of the muscle challenge to remove the shambler's gem. If you dampen all of them, you only need muscle 1.

It can be used to make a really nice accessory when you open the jewelry shop. I've also heard it's the key to recruiting a specific companion, and possibly to make more rifts appear with their corresponding items, but I'm not 100% on either of those.

It does seem to make more rifts appear, but then again that was on my "evil" run so it could've been the level 9 shadow taint, too :)

On the companion, it seems to be more to do with the number of shadow items you carry, from reports, rather than taint level or the crystal, but I haven't tested that myself.

Do you get any different dialogue if you pry out the crystal with 14 muscle? Is the dialogue for prying it out different?
