The Bad Ending

So I'm at the end, got like fifteen shadow taint. I've only collected some of the shadow items from the voids, and only uncursed some of the cursed things. I absorbed poindexter and all the shadow energy from those three pillars around Government Valley.

After I go into the portal the only ending I have is to join that entity off to the right.

Won't let me press either buttons on the machine, won't let me interact with the portal. Getting my gator ally to eat the president changes nothing, absorbing the president changes nothing. The only thing I seemingly can do is join the entity.

Does any one know if there's something else I can do. Because like, a twenty five hour playthrough culminating in "After a brief conversation you're now one with this shadow entity you know almost nothing about and here's some darkness slowly scrolling over a bunch of random places before the credits roll." is absolutely horrible.

There's no sense of closure, culmination or even any new information I got from this experience. Especially after all the build up with becoming shadow tainted. It's practically a Game Over but with credits. I don't even get any achievements from it either so it doesn't feel like a fully fledged ending; yet the game is giving me zero other options. This is awful.

You kinda managed to actually get the evil ending on your first playthrough here- Absorbing the energy from the shadow pillars locks you into the evil ending, so unfortunately you can't fix it. Good news though is that absorbing the pillars *only* leads to this ending- You can do a playthrough as evil as you want and just not absorb them, and you'll finish the game with a normal ending that's not just "End of the world except *you* are the one ending it"

Do you know if any of the other endings require or are influenced by shadow taint then, because the game directly presents it like absorbing those pillars is a natural progression of the shadow taint story; yet this ending I've got feels like something I'm meant to avoid.
