If you've got a level of shadow taint, you should find him as you wander around the big moist. i'm guessing any level is fine, but if you still don;t find him just keep upping it until you do (you only really need at most five, getting more isn't necessary)

Where did you find him? I managed taint 2, but no luck, I have been trying on multiple places

you might need to "open your eyes" by reaching level 3,because i found him wandering around.
keep in mind it's harder to lower your shadow taint the more you get

Character page, should be at the bottom under all other stats.

look on your character sheet, there should be a new stat there

taint 2, was carrying the cursed fedora, compass, fishing rod, and book.

He showed up on the first wander.

Might be luck though.

I got him at taint level 1, but only after I was carrying 3 cursed items at once. I think the requirement might be that you have to hold 3 Cursed items at once.

I got Alphonse on my third wander in the swamp and I have no shadow taint, have never had shadow taint, and am carrying no cursed items. I AM carrying a few shadow items, but I've never used any, (salad, beer, grease, clarinet, etc.)

what are the shadow items? The food/booze etc? never seen the gator and had a bunch of those on my run

Can say for a fact you don't need any taint levels or cursed items on you. Only questionable things I had on me were tons of shadow goodies and the rift crystal from ocean city. Given he provides you tons of free shadow items when wandering, I assume that's what may trigger him.

I have a few shadow items but still haven't run into the gator man, wonder what is 'enough' for it. I have the feeling that what you need is either cursed stuff on you, or that crystal
