Drexel Stead Good Ending?

Just finished a game where I did everything I thought I could do for the folks in the Maize Maze:
Helped the little girl entirely with all her things by getting the teddy bear, giving her the very cold ice cream from the AC units on the roof of the S.I.T. college, giving her the saucer of milk, all of it (forgetting something I am sure, but she was happy.)
Helped the milkman entirely in his quest to get a new bowtie from the armoire, laundered his hat, and bought all three types of milk item from him, after having listened to his entire vent.
Got the hobo to leave and go to the hobo camp, then bought corn bread from him so I could feed it to the crow.
Used the crow feather to scare the scarecrow away without fighting (pacifist run)
Helped the dentist by letting them make my mouth better (after making it so, so much worse) and then getting them the wind-up chattering teeth from the toy box, same as how I got the teddy from there. Then got her the popcorn machine as well.
Talked to the soda war military guy, he said everyone was the most happy they could be and he gave me the epaulets.

So what am I missing? The end of the game suggested that this is not the happy ending. Is there even a happy ending for these folks Billy sent to the cornfield? Ugh I feel so bad for them. I feel like there has to be some way for me to interact with the house up front, but I can't sort out how. Do I need to have more shadow taint?

Damn, that blows. I thought maybe I could try the lawn mower or the sickle to get rid of the evil corn stalk, but that didn't work, or didn't work how I did it.

It's a rteferen ce to the Twilight Zone, there is no happy ending there

I figured it was a reference to that, but I was really really hoping I could help them because they all seemed so miserable at the farm. :(

Oh well, they're just pixels (I say, sweating at the implications regardless)

Do you have the item "dire corn holder" (Weapon) ? Namely, I can use this item with the black grain.

But this just creates a new weapon.

Unfortunately I can't remember where I got it from. Maybe from a toilet?

you get the same thing if you kill the scarecrow, since i did that before the other stuff, lol
