Swam Too Deep?

I had the scuba mask on and tried to swim all the way to the bottom under the new boat off the coast of Al Bagra island and when I was about 10ft from the bottom I just instantly died. My scuba mask was fine, it had barely taken any damage. What the hell happened? I lost a lot of good stuff. what the ♥♥♥♥ is the point of having a scuba mask if you just die anyway?

just because you have a scuba mask doesnt mean pressure cant kill you. that said, you likely hit the bottom of the map, since not even rebreathers were in the base game id assume they never changed the "bottom" as no one could even get there and now its just been forgotten.
