I'm using 572.70 driver version (latest). Before, I was using 551.23 driver as it was the best one for CS2 and I play that game a lot, so I actually tried updating my graphics driver to the newer version for it to try to fix this issue for me but the same thing occurs. Also, disabling steam overlay did not help me. :(
Or just stop playing this horribly developed game is also an option. Not hating or trolling but it is a pretty horrible game overall. Or you can just play on a PS5 or XB. Seems to be running better on those platforms.

This information helped me a lot with my issue! Thank you so much! For real tho, find something better to do. Lurking through steam communities and checking in the discussions on the games you hate just to drop a comment or a few that is absolutely irrelevant to the topic, isn't beneficial to anyone in anyway.

i found that deleting the game entirely and playing a better game has fixed the issue completely

1.6k hours on COD tells an entirely different story, but my last reply applies to you too. Simply, don't waste your time with such comments.
Hey, i have this issue too and i thought i fixed it but it came back, tried with the last four different NVIDIA drivers and even and old one from way back, also manually rebuilding the shader cache all do not work, the black smoke is supposed to be heat haze or transparent effects, anything transparent has this black issue such as the windows that are frosted or condensate in the safe house, any heat haze from certain burning vehicle wreckage or fighter jet exhaust, and even water reflections and effects, and certain windows, even grenade shockwaves aren't transparent now and have a black wave, this bug is only in campaign on pc and not console, you can test by throwing a grenade in multiplayer and seeing the shockwave, whereas in campaign it is a black wave.
Also either restarting the computer or game it sometimes works sometimes didn't.

Once these black effects occur to me, I sometimes rapidly Alt Tab the game and it crashes with a DirectX error. I think it's somewhat connected. I also tried adjusting my graphics settings to:
Upscaling/Sharpening: FIDELITYFX CAS
FIDELITYFX CAS Strength: 70
NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation: Off
AMD FSR 3 Frame Generation: Off
VRAM Scale Target: 80
Variable Rate Shading: On
Texture Resolution: Normal
Texture Filter Anisotropic: Ultra
Depth of Field: Off
Detail Quality: Low
Particle Resolution: Very Low
Bullet Impacts: On
Persistent Effects: Off
Shader Quality: Low
On-Demand Texture Streaming: Minimal
Allocated Texture Cache Size: 16
Local Texture Streaming Quality: Normal
Shadow Quality: Normal
Screen Space Shadows: Off
Occlusion and Screen Space Lightning: Off
Screen Space Reflections: Off
Static Reflection Quality: Low
Tessellation: Off
Volumetric Quality: Low
Deferred Physics Quality: Off
Weathered Grid Volumes Quality: Off
Water Quality: Off

These settings fixed the DirectX crash whenever I Alt Tab my game when there's the black explosion/smoke effects on my screen and also increased my framerates and image quality by a ton.

Interesting, yeah it's pretty bad, the heist mission in the casino is even affected, you can't see through the water when you are underwater to see the guards, also coming out of the water you get black streaks on the screen that like stream from the top of the screen to the bottom and a bunch of black dots, which are supposed to be transparent watery effects, but now looks like oil lol.

I was genuinely concerned at first that my GPU is dying after I saw those black effects. Then I ran a benchmark and saw that my GPU has 99% bottleneck. https://i.imgur.com/4k6CBsS.jpeg

Then after applying those settings, it seemed to have fixed the bottleneck issue.

Overall the game runs flawlessly and doesn't stutter even tho I've heard people experience massive stutters while playing on WiFi or whatever, but I haven't experienced anything like that despite playing on a wireless network connection. Just the black smoke and blacked out effects bothers me and I have no idea how to fix this. Googled, asked people around, no one knows anything.

I mean me personally im still playing with the exact same settings but i either restart the computer or the game lol until it fixes which it does randomly, you kinda have to be insane to do this but it does work and it fixes all the effects like the water (looking up underwater) and rain from black like oil back to being nice and transparent, and the black smoke turns back into heat haze and black glass goes back to being foggy condensated glass, but it is random i don't know how to fix this properly either (apart from restarting the computer/game like twice) but people are starting to notice now on here and reddit.

Yeah, I guess you're somewhat lucky that you have atleast temporary fixes lol. As for me, no matter what I do, restart pc, restart steam, restart game, run the shader cache preload again, simply nothing fixes the issue, not even for a moment.

It appears that the black smoke bug has fixed for me with the 572.83 Nvidia driver. If anyone else has this issue on their RTX graphics cards, try updating your drivers to this specific version.
