Am I the only one having to download shaders after each patch?
I stopped playing COD a couple of years ago, skipped a couple of releases, and just recently came back to MW3. And to my horror I see that the problem with shaders still exist.

Am I honestly the only one affected by having to re-download the shaders every day?
I take it that its after a patch the shaders has to be re-uploaded, but how come they havent a better solution than this?
I aint got time to start up the game and sit in the lobby watching the slow loadbar of that "shaders pre-loading" for 10 min, and game is not playable if I skip it and jump into a game before its done.
I'm just curious if others is having the same problem, or if its only on my end?

shaders aren't downloaded, they're compiled by your cpu

they have to be recompiled whenever a game is updated, they also have to be recompiled whenever gpu drivers are updated or reinstalled

Such a weird solution they're using. I dont think I've seen something like this in any other game. :/
Anyhow thanks for the explanation. :)
lots of games do this

all cod game since 2019, dead space, callisto protocol, uncharted, last of us, jedi survivor, atomic heart, hogwarts legacy, horizon zero dawn, and lots of others i can't think of off-hand

it's most common in dx12 specific games
I'm tired of downloading.

Damn, I've played a few of those but not thought about it. I'm guessing its not daily patches on those games, so its not as obvious in the same way I take it.
only takes about 30-45 secs. each time, now myu daughters old am3 ddr3 with rtx3060ti takes several mins.

well, yeah, they're not as updated as often as cod so you don't have to recompile shaders as often

the faster the cpu, the faster it will compile

when i was on my old i7 it took something like 20-30 minutes, agony

I'm not aware of any graphic intensive games from the last 3-5 years that don't do this.

i’m just tired of shaders not being included in the games install and having to download them separately like i’ve been trying to download them for hours and they don’t get past 2%
When I look at the ''weapon mastery'' screen from any gun, my shaders continue to download.

The shaders are actually not being downloaded. Pre-loading actually means "generated in advance" instead of "generated during gameplay". Shaders are calculated from the data that is already on your PC by your graphics card with the help of GPU drivers and the support of your CPU. If you did this in-game, you would have the lag of hell.
Downloading them doesn't work either, because there are probably hundreds of thousands of different combinations of resolution, texture settings, graphics card chip, graphics card RAM, graphics card BIOS and GPU drivers. The less RAM the graphics card has, the older it is, the weaker the CPU, the longer the calculation takes.
