Paying $20 for a skin you don't even like to make other people madder? I mean idk what your finances are like but that doesn't seem like a great idea. You give Activsion money for this stuff, they will only make more.
I mean, Overwatch does have a good aesthetic that was a breath of fresh air back in 2016, although now it has inspired many others to follow suit. Not every game is built for E-sports, although with something as popular as CoD it would be silly not to. CoD has often strayed from being "gritty", after multiple futuristic games and ones with crossovers (Scream, Godzilla, Judge Dredd) it's hard to say that CoD is "historically realistic". Between the "rainbow flag in muh vidya game" and getting mad that screaming slurs might get you banned it's hard to take this capital-G Gamer post seriously.
