MW3 open beta not free?

On the store page when you scroll down, it says "Modern warfare 3 - Open Beta. Play for Free! Ends in 3 days."

So i spent 3 hours installing this game for it to tell me in the main menu, that I have to spend $110 and pre-order the game in order to play an OPEN BETA that says its Free for 3 days in the steam store description?!

Yes, Activision don't know the meaning of "Free" and "Open Beta" the beta is, for now, just for those who preorder the game. So yes, it's "free", if you have bought the game.

It's early access beta currently for October 12-13 for pre-orders/people who had codes
October 14-16th is open beta on all platforms

is this actually true though? since the beta (as well as MWII) is under the same app ("Call of Duty®") it might prevent you from refunding since you will inevitably spend more than 2 hours in it.

Yes you can.

1. Beta play time never counts.

2. If you play the game after it releases and have less than 2 hours in MWIII, you have to submit a manual ticket and explain it though. The automated system treats it as normal DLC and not a separate game which a real support staff member can.

Doesn't activision know what an 'open beta' is?
Was hyped af for mw3, if i can't play the 'open' beta, i won't be buying this at all.

On Battle.net , select MWII or WZ, click settings, modify install, modify install again and check the MWIII beta to install.
