it also reset the challenges in-game.

Apparently campaign progress being reset is a common issue for some reason but i don't get how you would lose in-game challenges as they are not actual files

I'd simply leave the campaign until they fix it, shouldn't take more than 2 days at worse

None of the CoD games have cloud saves anymore, they dropped support for it a few years ago.

It's possible you have turned on ransomware protection in Windows and that is creating issues with local save files. Check "ransomware protection" in your settings and then look at "block history" if it's on.

I use windows defender and controlled folder access is disabled.

Just had this happen to a friend on the Microsoft version, and we have no idea how to fix this... nothing is in ransomware or anything like that...

same here. each time i make some progress and leave for a while im back to square one

for me it was onedrive, when I disabled the backup for the documents folder, I got my progression back, somehow it synced files but not all

This was it for me. but not because I was backing up Documents. I quit OneDrive sync and my save came back. No idea why it worked, but at this point I'm just happy to not have to play the first missions again.
