yes its classic system like back in b02 were u have to do it your self if uwant 2 but uwill need to reunlock everything untill u hit master prestige then u dont have to reunlock anything no more cause your max lol just now u grind for level 1000

Literally, if you dont want to prestige then just stay at level 55, but miss out on all the rewards, if anything its better to prestige in this game than OG cods purely cuz of all the rewards ontop of the bragging rights, i used to only prestige once or twice on waw or bo1, now i plan to do it all through the game's life cycle

You can only Prestige 10 times then your level cap will continue on above level 55.
