Ranked has an unpublished metric to match on and does not use diamond/iridescent, as a measure of skill. Usually, the unpublished metric looks at Win Loss ratio. If you are a bronze player and win 10 games in a row, you will probably end up in a lobby with golds. You are probably too good and the game is trying to make you lose some games by putting you against harder players.
Ranked games are designed to be hard as its a competitive mode. The point is on average, you should lose half of your games. The idea is that if you verse players that are better than you, it will help you to become a better player.
Diamond 1 is an elite group of players. Lets assume, Activision was manipulating ranked based on skins. They have let you get an extremely long way, given you haven't brought skins. Why not manipulate it at gold rank?
