Try removing your in-game clan tag, this also seems to fix the no friends online issue, at least it did for me last night. click on your level (top right corner) then click on "edit clan tag", remove it, then hit save. Restart your game.

So some people have been spreading it around, but to fix it you need to go into your Documents folder, while you're not in the game, and delete the Call of Duty folder, you start your game and your settings will be reset like audio settings and stuff, you'll have to set them back up, but you will be able to join people. It worked for me and I've had the problem since I started playing in November.

So again it's not the steam folder, it's the Call of Duty folder in your Documents, make sure your game is off when you do it, and once you delete it, start up Call of Duty.

So i found a solution. You go to 'account & network' on cod, and then 'import legacy settings', then choose 'MW2 settings' it'll change some of your controller/keyboard and gameplay settings but none of you graphics. this worked for me and now i can join all of my friends
