I had to log back into Steam and i canceled the phone number request. Im not putting my phone number in. I get enough scam calls a day, I dont need more. Plus its none of their business what my phone number is.

If you get banned for cheating, your phone number is also banned, forcing you to get a new phone as well as a new PC to play again.

Im not adding my phone number. I met all of the requirements from the day of purchase to play this game and now all of a sudden they want my phone number in order for me to continue to play online? Not gonna happen! They can either cancel this phone number requirement or refund my dam money that I paid to play this game. Simple as that! What's next, you want my Social Security number too in order to play online?

I think this is overkill. We shouldn't have to disclose our number just to play a game. I get it their trying to stop re-occurrences of cheating, but I feel they should be able to do it another way. For example every cod game when you down load it should have a key code you need to access the product (Like with Windows 10 & 11, etc). That key is associated to your copy of the game forever. If someone cheats, they can easily disable the code so the game wouldn't work. This I feel would be a better way. As it's been said in this thread I feel this is just another way for them to get our data and sell it. And maybe this is the current reality we all have to accept. Again this is overkill for a game!

Not true, I've been here 12 years, played MW2 since launch and yesterday was I asked to put in my number. I requested a refund, was denied Ive moved on and will no longer buy any new games from steam, They have essentially locked me out and are asking me for the key to invade my privacy, Yes I know DHS and CIA and china and Russia and everyone else has it but that is out of my control.

News flash..hackers do not want your phone number. But you already gave your credit card info.......

Hackers don't want my cell phone number, but marketers sure as heck do and you can't tell me that cell phone number databases aren't sold ALL THE TIME. Also, I don't allow Steam to store my credit card info so if Steam DOES have my card info then they have been lying.

CSGO has this phone number requirement, but it's optional. You can decide not to give them but you would only be matched with other people who didn't give as well so the people giving their phone number is less likely to encounter cheaters than those who didn't.
