I just made a windows update to Windows 10 version 22H2. And when i wanted to try it out a game update was released. I think i am gonna have to wait for few more days till the update is complete.
But when you said upgrade. Did you mean hardware upgrade or software upgrade? I am planning on increasing my RAM to 24 GB. Do you think this is enough??
What's the BOSD error code?
Have you checked your temperature?
When was the last time you cleaned the laptop of dust?
It is quite rare that a game can crash a system completely without an issue in the system itself being present.
Most common faults are either a problem with temperature or the power supply when you encounter a BSOD under load. Other fault could be an issue with the driver, forcing the system to shut down, that's why the error code would be interesting to see.
A game will not cause a stop error (blue screen). Theoretically it's possible if you are using some sort of cracked version, but regular games, not so much. A stop error is an OS failure, which means it must be either a driver, the OS or hardware that failed. For OS you can try to do an SFC scan from an admin command prompt, on some occasions it's enough to fix corrupted OS files (if it finds corrupt files but fails to fix it's typically easier to reinstall Windows). For drivers, use DDU to fully remove graphics drivers before reinstalling. For hardware, it's hard to say.
For OP, doesn't seem like it's necesarily hardware failure. Sounds like corupted OS files or bad driver. Try to run an SFC scan and reinstall drivers. There also might be some weird interraction with some software, mostly antivirus
The error code that i am getting is DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION, i googled it and it says that this error is generated from corrupt drivers or corrupt Operating System files.
Anyway thanks for the reply. I now want to try playing the game after i updated my Windows 10 to the latest version, but i am still updating the game.
I am going to scan for corrupted files using sfc, thanks for the suggestion. Could it be that the game is using one of these files and they are corrupted?
DPC is deferred procedure call, in windows it it is there so that a task can be run with high priority and delay the run of low priority tasks. When a task is run under such high priority the dpc watchdog makes sure that the task with the high priority is not run for too long and if it does he reports a violation.
So an error like this points towards an incompatibility between the system and the hardware.
This can occur on software updates (most of the times windows updates but then it usually happens all the time not just when playing something), incompatible or defect drivers (track what hardware you last plugged into the system or whose drivers you updated, it can be the problem of that error) .
Often the SATA-AHCI Controller and it's current driver is a problem showing this error, so a try is to reinstall that driver or install another one.
If you installed a new driver for hardware it might also cause the violation, in that case you should try a different driver or roll back to a previous one if possible.
If for example you did an update to the graphics driver and CoD is now trying to use functions of that graphics drivers but some part in this driver throws the violation, then the problem is not CoD but the incompatible driver of the graphics card for your system.
Lastly you should also make sure that your HDD/SDD is in a healthy state since they too can throw that violation. A chkdsk can help here to make sure that the filesystem is in a proper state. Using the corresponding manufactureres disk tools like Western digital data lifeguard diagnostics or dashboard as it is called now afaik, can show errors with a hard drive and if it needs replacing.
Thank You for the clear explanation.
Last i checked, the sfcscan did not give me a problem.
Now i am running the chkdsk command and waiting for its result.
The crash was happening before i updated my drivers. Now i am waiting for the game to finish downloading the update so i can try it again. My laptop is lenovo and i used lenovo vantage to download new drivers.
In addition my windows update updated the OS to version H22, so my system is up to date.
Furthermore, no hardware are attached to my laptop except my Mouse and connecting my Airpods to my laptop via bluetooth.
Regarding the driver SATA-AHCI Controller i changed it to Intel(R) 6th Generation Core Processor Family bla bla bla...
I hope updating my drivers fix the crashing issues.
There is one last one thing i want ti point out, when i first installed the game and tried to launch it, it gave me that is need an NVIDIA drivers version not less than a certain version number, i forget. So updated my NDIVIA drivers to the latest version 528.24, could it be that this NVIDIA driver update is the issue??
Thanks for the assist!
If you look around the forum other people reported that only till 522.25 or something the game actually runs for them.
Which means that there are problems with certain driver versions from nvidia on this game.
A point where nvidia needs to bugfix.
You might want to give it a shot and use the 522.25 version.
If the game tells you it is an outdated driver, just check if it still runs, if it does ignore the games message, it has no idea what setup you have all it does is look up the driver date.
Okay i will give it try.
And by the way the chkdsk command found no issues.
The only thing left to try is to downgrade the NVIDIA version to 522.25.
I will try it then revert back
