No proper flags, no proper weapon names, no realistic countries/factions? Is this even Call of Duty?

Most Historic (in the sense of being affiliated with an era or setting eg: the first modern warfare) FPS games have realistic factions, weapons and countries based on real life things that exist or have existed. This game has none of that yet it is supposed to be a sequel to a game franchise that has always had them? This game isn't at all about immersion, I don't care about immersion, it's just very strange when prior games had proper weapon names like the M-16, the Ak-47 etc. now they're all just fake fantasy weapon names. It's like the game is in an alternate universe/reality now. I have yet to play the campaign but does that at least have actual country flags and actual weapon names? It really doesn't make sense.

Also ignoring the politics of the flags, why do we have made up factions too? What happened to the SAS, or Op For? Was that just too boring and unoriginal or are the devs/shareholders afraid of triggering their most casual audience that buys the games every year? Speaking of triggering, in a game about murdering the enemy team and causing death and destruction, why would they care about people's feelings of needing to be represented or included. Devs need their priorities in order. I regret buying this as I've been boycotting since Black Ops 1. At least Battlefield still has country flags AND trans operators lol.

(the weapon gameplay and gun customization is cool though) overall I r8 5/8.

And, speaking for myself, I'm not "crying" or even upset about pride flags in the game. My quarrel is with the decision to put them in. It's just odd. and out of place.

okay and your point is why are they in the game. Because people use them it’s not pandering if people identify with them and then use them there are 1000 other callings cards you can use over the other 10 or however many sexual identity cards are in the game. So why let it bother you this much?

First of all, if the game was going to have proper weapon names, then it certainly wouldn't include "AK-47". None of the guns featured are the AK-47, which despite popular understanding to the contrary, never actually existed. The prototype Avtomat Kalashnikov rifles developed in 1945 and presented for trials in 1947 were never referred to as the AK-47 by anyone other than Hollywood movie producers, clueless video game developers, and of course, the public that consumed them. The weapons present in the game are the 7.62x39mm AK-103 (Kastov-762), 5.45x39mm AK-105 (Kastov-545), and the AK-74U (Kastov-74U), also in 5.45x39mm IRL.

Also, many of the guns in this game only barely represent their IRL counterparts. For example, the PDSW 528 is... well, all wrong for a P90. The magazine release lever on the Lachman Sub (MP5) is missing entirely. The TAQs only really resemble the SCAR on first inspection, with a wide range of anomalous features. The .50 GS doesn't jam nearly as much as it should. The Steyrs are a weird hybrid between the Steyr AUG and the Lithgow Arms F90. And there is absolutely no place on the modern battlefield for a Marlin 336 or Browning Citori. .50BMG rifles are not sniper rifles, and the GM6 is absolute hot trash IRL. The Chimera is a weird hybrid between the MCX Rattler and the AAC Honey Badger. The Remington Model 700 range is incredibly weird and out of place with the exception of the SP-X 80 (AKA M2010).

Honestly, it's just better to think of the guns in this game as the fictional guns they actually are. At least no one can get confused about the difference between the SIG P220 and the P330.

Thank you for the info, I wasn't meaning those specific weapons, just that NONE of the weapons we are all familiar with (from real life and other prior COD games) are called the same thing, causing initial confusion. Weird design choice on their part. Should almost put a disclaimer on the menu.

If they had national flags, you'd be making a post calling for the Russian flag to be banned instead of this nonsense. COD is made to make a profit, not help you 'serve your country' somehow.

It's not entitlement at all to ask for something prior versions of the game had... for free. Stop supporting anti-consumerist design decisions. A country flag =/= a unique skin that needs a challenge to unlock. Those are not the same at all. There should be really hard to acquire skins and calling cards. HOWEVER if there are free things being offered, there should be more than just 22 pride flags. This post however was less about those and more about how things are entirely different than previous COD games of the same name, in the same setting, in the same universe. The overall decisions they have made with that seems to be a mistake or an in-your-face joke to the player base. Can't wait until the next one where there's no blood or gore and you're just robots shooting airsoft guns that can't "kill" the enemy because that might hurt someone's feelings.
