I was spec'ing a guy who killed me, and he was literally using the aim assist to find hiding players in cover. He found me the same way, which is why I spec'ed him. He couldnt see the the other players, and this player did not know they were there in advance. It was down to the final circle in BR. His aim was literally going right to people one after the other, he just had to look around until it locked onto someone, giving away their hiding spot in a bush or behind a rock..
I thought it was a cheat, but it was actually the aim assist. Just doing what it does, move to the target when its close enough. Line of sight or not.
This isnt true. There's also a rotational assist where if your strafing and an enemy runs across you, the aim assist will slightly nudge your aim in that direction (usually a hindrance rather than an assist), but it's not tracking. Its been a part of cod for years and only recently pc gamers have been upset over it.
Personally, I think that since current gen consoles have had higher fps and fov options, PC players have been whining because they have lost their advantage.
..Which is called "Tracking" since you're not the one doing the movements... the game is moving for you. Don't defend it.
OK, fair enough, call it tracking if you feel a few millimetres of movement is tracking. But it has been a part of the console aim assist from the beginning in cod. No one was crying then and no one should be crying now.
Ive always been against aim assist, and have stopped buying any shooter games that have an aim assist for controller users, or crossplay in general. If they want my money, they need to cater to PC gamers separately. There is no need to have crossplay. The fact they have to give controller users a cheat, just to make it work, exemplifies how lame it is.
@topic, also hate sbmm. It should only be used for players who are likely cheating but they havent been able to prove. You know the ones, 100 kills, 3 deaths... They should all be put in matches together, everyone else left alone.
I'm a curious fellow with no dog in this fight and open to new ideas and opinions. But that is no proof at all. That was a kill cam clip which are a notoriously unreliable representation of a gun fight. Plus, there was no proof of tracking anyway, half of my gun battles are me doing that. It's normal controller use.
I think the aim assist is to compensate for the lack of movement /aim precision you get with just a thumb stick compared to a whole hand grasping a mouse. Over the years, i've used both and found them to be a fair way of bridging the gap. However, if the aim assist has actually evolved into tracking an enemy rather than nudging slightly towards an enemy, yeah that sucks and I wouldn't be happy either. I'd like to see a Youtuber break this down, preferably not a shill like Xclusive Ace.
It's super easy to test.
Stand by a door nex to a wall. Move into the wall (so you are not actually moving but this still activates it). When an enemy runs through watch what happens without touching the aim stick. It will track at about 50% or something speed of the target until they leave the aim assist bubble around them.
