I solved the issue by contacting Activision support via email.
~~~how long did that take buddy cuz im in the same boat just need my steam unlinked from old acc that i logged in via steam but support tickets are useless since it sends it to my old email from 2012...so i emailed them from current activision acc. im curious if they even respond at all going on 4 weeks of no reply
Not sure how you emailed them, but there is a way to contact the support via email on Activision Support site. Just choose that you have some issues with buying the game or something like that — I think you understand that they care about such cases, haha.
That being said, I cannot recall how much time it took, but I guess it can be from 4 up to 14 days — just be patient.
Just successfully got this issue solved via a suggestion from Acti Support... in less than 10 mins from asking which is surprisingly awesome..
So no promises but try using a different device, an incognito window didn't work for me but may for you. I used my phone
>>> At first it seemed to fail yet again, just re-try again and you should get a larger new prompt asking you to check a box to approve the loss of some stats or whatever. I agreed and clicked.
The page now correctly showed me as unlinked. And yeah I was able to relink with a new account as hoped.
