keep reading how long term players are upset because its a reskin of the last TW game and such and that the dev screwed the pooch with this newest one. But being really into egypt stuff and what not and this being the only TW game thats ever peaked my interest, would it be a good start or just wait for builders of egypt and the moses game perhaps?

Total War is good for newcomers. I say pick a setting you like and try that first. If Pharaoh is your setting then you should definitely get it.

The total war games aren't bad ... just the bad bugs and crashes from new releases that takes about a year or two to be fixed.

It has become the norm to not buy total war games on launch for me because it is always 2 years behind development.

Just know that quality for Pharaoh has degraded, but still a good experience for first timers.

if you like this then you can try the other settings. If you are amazed then that is because you played a low quality product (Pharaoh) and moved on to a better quality product.

In the beginning I thought it was middlin'...now I'm about 10 hours in and I really think they nailed it. Tactical combat is still sub-par compared to some other TA titles, but I rarely use it anyways. There is a lot going on at the strategic level to balance that out.

If you've never played a TA game before, maybe do Shogun II first before modernizing.

I would recommend Rome 2 to every newcomer. Pharaoh is interesting only if you know how troops will perform with slightly different stats. Utilize these small differences to win a battle is fun otherwise the combat is dull as hell. In Rome 2 you have much more stuff to play, and units feels quite different. It is also cheap when on sale. Perfect for newcomers.

I've enjoyed pharaoh so far but i'd just wait for a sale for it honestly. I'd say if you're a new player to TW go ahead and grab something like Shogun 2, or Medieval 2 and go from there

Yeah I accidentally had the "launch when downlaoded" and the game opened up so i'm stuck with er lol. It's been fun, but doesn't feel overly new, nor worth the price. If i could go back I'd just buy FOTS for shogun 2 rather than this.
