Memory leak after 3+ hours
Any1 else experiencing memory leaks after playing for a while?

After playing for a while (a couple of hours, maybe a bit more), the game gets extremely lagging to the point of it being a slideshow.

Then after closing down the game, and starting it right back up, the problem is gone..

Im thinking it might get even worse, when CA Sofia adds the new areas to the map, if the bug is not located before introducing that.

Water cooling? I play on an £800 laptop with a 3050 and two fans and I get no ‘memory leak’ after ten hours.

yea im using water cooling and keeping an eye on the hardware with hwmonitor.

I have played all tw games, and this only occurs in pharaoh, not in wh3.

it might be some of the fancy graphical settings causing the problem.

I, like Yews, am playing fine on a laptop on to a second monitor. Pharaoh is among the best running TW games for me.... Warhmmer 3 just runs terrible at the moment on the campaign, Atilla and Thrones also run terrible.

Pharaoh can run fine for me hours on end, though do you tab out of the game or have game running in background if say, you pause it and jump on to steam or other activity for a bit? I have had a few instances where Pharaoh will start sputtering and get massive frame rate drops etc. Usually requires me to restart the game and all fine... so, i generally avoid doing other tasks when in game. Though i do from time to time go to chat, though i'm mindful that this can be an issue.

It could be anything. Like a discrepancy between how much voltage the GPU wants and how much it gets.

It's running buttery smooth for me as well 300+ fps - but like you mention, suddenly I can get massive frame rate drops, which requires a restart.

The problem you're explaining here, seems to be the same im having. It's not a massive problem and fixes it self with a restart, it's just annoying.

I'm also getting this problem, exactly as OP has described it: after approximately three hours, on solo or online play, Pharaoh just starts getting slower & freezing more until I physically can't play. Resets completely if I reboot the game & acts normally for the next three hours.

Using 64GB DDR5 RAM on a desktop w/ a RTX 3080, AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D 12 core CPU and three fans, and a 1000W power supply. According to software both the GPU & CPU aren't showing very different behaviour from Three Kingdoms or Warhammer 3 (which don't have this issue after playing both respectively for upwards of 10 hours in past sessions), so I'm loath to believe it's a hardware issue.

Anyone have any advice for graphical settings that might cause this? Seems to be the next course of logic but my current fiddling don't seem to affect much. Advice would be appreciated & hopefully we can find the solution together!

Yea that could be, but this problem only happens for me (and others) with pharaoh, so it seems to have something to do with the game.

I appreciate you taking the time to comment on the issue. I have been googling a bit and it seems there might be a fix included in a mod - it might have something to do with the messages appearing in game, and the game looking through a library with errors, before looking in the correct library - but try googling it (total war pharaoh memory leak), and it should be in top 3-4 posts.

I would appreciate it being fixed by devs though, and not having to use mods for the vanilla game :)

Same, let's hope there's a patch soon. I think I've seen the post but I've been hesitant to try a mod if there was something that could be done. Let me know if the mod works out for you & I'll do the same for you as well, if I wind up trying it first :)

I seem to have found the solution:

Turning on V-sync.,

I'm using a G-sync monitor, so I normally don't have V-sync on. But I tried turning it on, and I have not had a "memory" leak/massive lag all of a sudden since.

Saw a video by Level1Techs where raptor lake cpus might cause problems that seem like memory leak. Probably not your case, but just incase you have that specific series cpu, fyi. :)
