Lots of glowing stuff on the campaign map, superimposed over the fog...
Can anyone tell me what it means?

1) Glowing orange emblems: a two headed eagle over Hittite territory; an owl over Egypt territory; a crown over Cannanite turf; and a stack of bows and arrows over some southern places.

2) Glowing orange circles surrounding random cities.

1) is an indication for (groups of) realms. Eagle --> core lands of Hatti, "owl", actually a falcon --> core lands of Egypt, crown --> canaan, bow --> nubia and kush (ta-seti = "land of the bow" in egyptian).
2) these are cult centres. Their state of glamour or decay determines the overall state of civilization between collapse and prosperity. They also have special buildings besides their grand temple more often than not.

It’s not a crown. It’s the hills hieroglyph. It reads ‘khast’ and means ‘alien land’.
