Deployables and siege equipment
OK so I understand why siege equipment isn't in the game, due to the time period, but geez it could really do with an onager or something.. sure it's not 100% historically accurate but for game play purposes it would add a lot. Let the purists disable them within the other myriad of options... Please add.

But more importantly, why are there no deployables in this title?? It's not far fetched to think that ancient armies can deploy stakes or pits/traps..... PLEASE ADD.. it would do a lot for variety to gameplay - perhaps as a generals skill. Battles are so bland in this game precisely because it's missing these simple features.

My opinion; https://steamcommunity.com/app/1937780/discussions/0/7260435610012351352/

I like the added challenge of not having them, made me a better player for when I go back to older games.

If I where to add any siege equipment I would add sappers who need to get to the walls and damage it. Or why not a trojan horse which allows you to predeploy a small elite unit inside the walls

I don't think battles are bland, but a few stakes and ditches would be cool indeed, probably only available in encamp stance, so the army actually had the time to prepare them.

As for artillery I find its absence rather inspiring. It is also historically right out of the question.

Yeah there are a few siege items they could include... i dont want to see artillery, i think many of these total war games have been ruined by it.

But yeah there are other tactics... siege ramps, siege shields, boats behaving similar to siege towers to attack from waterways, live sapping etc... its clear looking at egyptian fortifications before this era that fortifications were thought about. That youtube vid about buhen fortress was pretty interesting, not sure how accurate it is but sure looks impressive.

... and yes., they should have employable, this would add added depth, pits, stakes, hot sand, rocks, barricades, temporary make shift towers, shelters, makeshift stores, counter siege ramps and so on

Exactly ^

I really enjoy the game for what it is, but it could do with a little salt and pepper.

But those one time only deployables though before battle.... not the Warhammer tower defense stuff... don't want to see that again :WH3_greasus_rofl:

Personally I agree, we need more options. Though it's also an opportunity to explore the ways via which a siege was broken at the time. The Thutmose legacy actually alludes to this. Trickery, bribery, divide and rule where common. The most famous is the Roman Tourist invention of the Trojan horse. Though there where evidence of ships being named horses and similar. Some researchers believe the Trojan horse could have been a ship or similar. Another was you getting loyalists on your side to help you out, say you promise to put them in charge of the city if they betray etc.

Now peleset has that ox cart elite unit, why not have something similar spawn from the inside? Maybe place them at a remote gate to cap it for you

You're right, they don't need to be traditional style of deployments, instead there's a lot they could explore for this time period to make it interesting.

I just feel in 3k or R2 for example, it's fun setting up your defences from a major attack.. this game lacks that.

The actual *empire* of Assur does not happen before several hundred years later in the iron age.

Deployables like stakes and caltrops could be interesting, sandpits etcetera - but i'd worry about it breaking the flow of how agressive the battles feel.
These deployables are defensive, encouraging a playstyle more like from Attila where you set up your pikes and snipe from behind them.

I wouldn't want mangonels and such personally, it'd spoil the feeling of historical bronze age for me.
-But if caltrops and stakes could be deployed quickly with a not-op effect, it could add to the RTS chaos kind of like using muddy flats and setting forests on fire already kind of do.
I guess i just dont want anything to be static other than city walls, the fluid infantry mayhem feels so good to me.
Pharaoh is unique in that feel for me :TWP_Peace:

Onagers were invented about 1500 years after this game takes place. You might as well ask for attack helicopters in Attila.

"I love the smell of burning greek fire in the morning", said the byzantine commander Kilgoros. The huns never saw it coming.
