Also follow on this, my original post and your reply to that.
With the succession stuff in mind i think the similar aspects to Thrones of Britannia estates mechanic could be useful, giving titles to your generals, family members as they become viceroys or minor kings etc. Especially on death this could create swings in balance as potential civil wars start, rebellions or breakaways from your faction being possible. Though some paint the map purists wont like this i bet.
Also with the collecting names, regions etc i suggested early as goals to expand domain there could be rewards. It doesn't need to be buffs, it could simply be titles, cosmetic attire, battle standards, starting military traditions, making a wonder or something... lots of ideas.
